Advice about holiday ing in thailand

We're looking for a beachfront holiday and like the idea of Thailand.

We want on the beach, crystal clear seas and soft sandy beaches, not necessarily adult only but aimed more at couples than families/children.

We'd like to go in May.

Is it best to book a package or separate?

We don't mind all inclusive but minimum b&b.

Suggestions welcome. Maybe you know somewhere similar that might be better?

Budget approx. £900pp 7 nights flights from London

Have a browse of what http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/asia/thailand/holidays-thailand.html have to offer.

Are their flights and uk airports convenient for you?

I've been to Thailand a few times but am going to recommend that you look at a place that I haven't visited but have wanted to for some time. Krabi always looks beautiful in the pictures and I'm sure that some on here will have been.

I know that this isn't quite the response that you were after but I thought that I'd put my two penny worth in anyway.

I think Koh Samui is better than Krabi

we had a week in each as it is fairly simple to get from one to the other.

we just took one of those limousine taxi's ..There was four of us and it works out cheaper than bus tickets also you save waking up at some god awful time and hanging round coach stations.

I think about two or three hours from Krabi to the Port for the ferry to Koh Samui ...Plus you get to look at the scenery .
  • Thanks Richard I've looked at thomson, thomascook and first choice but I've only ever traveled to Europe so this area is new to me. Best time travel best way etc etc

Recommendations welcome Ballard. Krabi looks beautiful.
  • Hi flo log Sami also looks great any recommendations hotels etc? All inc or b&b?

You only want to go for 7 nights, so one of the major considerations is how convenient the flights are for you. There are long haul flights to Phuket on Thomson, Emirates. To get to Krabi and Koh Samui you'd have to fly via Bangkok.

Where in the UK are you?

Have you experienced jet lag before?

We loved Krabi, and our favourite place was on a peninsular called Railay, you get to it by long tail boat from Ao Nang beach. It was just beautiful, we stayed here: http://www.sunrisetropical.com/ it was last week in October, so still low season (high starts Nov1st) and we got a villa for not a lot of money. We loved it as it was quite remote, it had a hint of backpackers own the beach, and very relaxed, but not rowdy. BUT this was 8 years ago, can't guarantee it's not changed!

We flew to Bangkok on KLM, then a regional flight transfer to Krabi, and a taxi from the airport to Ao Nang. WE only booked accommodation for the first few nights, then just asked each lace we liked to see their best rooms. We also loved http://www.thecliffkrabi.com/ which we booked before we left. However it is on the road into town, which surprised us the photos don't show that, as soon as you are inside the resort it's like a tropical paradise, around 5 mins walk from the beach front

I would also check about May for it being rainy/off season, and what that might mean. November to March is the main season
  • Hi Richard I'd be flying from ideally gatwick or Heathrow.

I've only ever been to Europe. The longest flight ive been on was 4 hours I think.

If all you want is a beach, then why fly all that way?

Been going to most of SE Asia for the last 20 years, never for less than 3 weeks at a time [to justify the travel], and never with a beach holiday in mind, apart rom Khao Lak last year, which was nothing like real Thailand and was really boring.

Wonderful country, but there are better beach destinations closer to home
