Firefox for me: use Private Browsing for Financial/Secure stuff: -

    File - New Private Window

Private Window opens and I can use it with confidence. Just close it by File - Exit or Click the 'X' in top right corner, it reverts to the normal window.

Even if you do not save it, the file was still downloaded and recoverable on your computer with the right tools.

If you view it then you had to download it.

Any and all files you open online, are initially downloaded to a temporary directory. To see this go to the start menu and type in %temp%

It is not possible to open files online as if opening something on a network storage, so every single thing you see online is first downloaded to your PC.

Not really a problem with Firefox as you can set it to delete the cache every time the browser is closed.

    Thanks for all the help.

I've decided to switch back to Firefox. Have selected the 'never remember history' option.

When I opened a financial statement on website, I now got the choice of whether to save or not, so selected 'not' and files are not appearing in 'downloads'.
