It is correct that Costco accept AmEx, however I get a different rate of cashback (only 0.5% rather than 1.5%). Hidden in the AmEx cashback Ts&Cs is a clause that allows them to give a lower rate of cashback for spending at warehouses (or some such wording). Maybe your Ts&Cs are different.

I suspect it's the same for everyone. I noticed lower cashback than expected so phoned Amex and they pointed out the 'Warehouse' thing to me. Mine's also 1.25% rate normally for everything else. It's no worse than my other cards also paying 0.5% for general so no bother.

The curious thing is this reduced rate has never been applied to any other transaction I have made with AmEx (and I spend about £2k a month on it). I wonder whether anyone else has ever had this reduced rate applied for a transaction other than Costco?

Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be :D

Do any other warehouse type places accept it?
Costco is the only (warehouse) place in the UK, unless you count Makro etc.

Thanks for pointing this out. For a Costco spend of £109.19, I got £0.68 cashback, which is 0.6227%, half of 1.25%.

The other transactions seem to be 1.25%, as it should be.

    Sneaky.

I've just noticed that Screwfix now take Amex via Paypal.
