Help with finances

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help really. I'm not very good with working things out - maths isn't my strong point.

I have been offered a job. £21,917 per annum. Full time hours.

We're currently getting, income support, child tax credits, housing benefit. My daughter has disabilities so she gets her DLA and I get carers allowance for her.

My partner doesn't work due to chronic illnesses. (atos doesn't deem this an illness (chrons disease), even though it's debilitating so he doesn't get sick pay for this

My question is... would I be financially worse off working? My partner will be doing the childcare so that's sorted. I purposely bettered myself in college so we could all live more comfortably but from what people tell me we're going to be struggling...
Any help I'd be grateful,

you can model the situations through one of the benefits calculators such as entitledto

    Income support would stop.

    DLA would continue as is.

Your partner could claim the carers allowance, you wouldn't be able to.

CTC would reduce. If you could tell me rate of DLA care component I could calculate an estimate.

The benefit calculator mentioned should be able to tell you about housing benefit.
  • Thank you for the replies,

Okay so you'll have your salary which works out about £1500 take home per month.
Plus carers allowance, approx £269 per month.
Plus child benefit, approx £90 per month.
Plus tax credits, approx £297 per month

So that's £2156 per month. Plus the DLA you already get.

Housing benefit, check the calculator mentioned.

I don't know how much you currently get but wouldn't think you'd be worse off with those figures?
  • No I definitely won't be worse off at all, better probably once I deduct rent, council tax and school dinners etc.

    thank you!!!
