Warning - Paul Adams

Praise Paul Adams & Co of Chessington Surrey for fitting my decorating job into their schedule. Praise then for completing the job early. Paul charged more than his competitors, but I don't mind paying for quality. The job looked terrific, But Paul's left me with two headaches. Some of the paint was still wet, next day I saw that several walls had paint too thin and the old picture frame marks all showed through. An overdoor panel had been missed too. Good work on the window frames though. Because he'd finished early he hadn't time to prepare an invoice he said. "Pay me and I'll post one" he said. I keep leaving him messages (he never picks up). his son Lee did and promised to come back and finish the job. It's coming up to three months now and stll no invoice that I need for my accounts and no finished job. What a pity there are so many tradesmen out there who never quite finish anything. :(
How would you handle the problem? Tell him I'm reporting him to HMR&C and trading standards? Is that too harsh?

Trading standards will do nothing .
HMRC only if he does not pay tax and vat .

Personally a would go down the LBA route letter before action ( see mse ) Though what actual action is worth taking is a different matter .

I would be very careful about criticising and naming a company on a public forum. It could lead to legal action.

Legal action that would fail if the claims made by the OP are true and can be shown to be true.

Perhaps we should add "Praise - Paul Adams doesn't send payment demands when the job hasn't been completed to the customers satisfaction"?

I mean, you haven't actually paid him yet so you've got a bargain so far.

I've read it as he's paid but never received an invoice.

    Just a few questions:-

    How did you pay?
    Who did you pay?
    Did the bill include VAT?

    This would imply otherwise

Because he'd finished early he hadn't time to prepare an invoice he said. "Pay me and I'll post one" he said.

Anonymously criticising large company policy is somewhat different to personal criticism of a small business.

The person criticised may read these forums and be able to trace the OP, resulting in nasty repercussions.

Our local paper reported a case, where the owner of the criticised business took revenge in a number of sneaky ways and it was only by luck that he was caught and brought to justice.

I fail to see how you can compare an honest online report from a customer to illegal and criminal acts by a business. Are you saying the op shouldn't post his complaint for fear of being bullied?
