Warning - Paul Adams

I fail to see how you can compare an honest online report from a customer to illegal and criminal acts by a business. Are you saying the op shouldn't post his complaint for fear of being bullied?
The OP has a very specific, very distinctive header to this thread:
Warning -- Paul Adams.
I think the OP meant that it wasn't a vent in this thread, so had better be a, er, warning.
The OP should really, seriously, think again. An individual has been named here (not a company, which you'd have a hard job of libeling) and the word "Warning" has been attached to that name. That's enough to give a reasonable person grounds for thinking that Mr Adams has done something / is guilty of something in respect of which a "warning" is merited.
But Mr Adams . . . hasn't.
The OP has not explained things at all well -- has he paid for the work? If so, did he pay the original estimate price? Is he complaining that what he has paid isn't what the work was worth? -- but from the information that he has, so far, popped on here, Mr Adams seems to be not particularly good at looking after his own best interests.
And what: that's the reason for a highly public "Warning" to others, one which Google will pick up on and have available all across the 'Net???
If the OP wishes to help Mr Adams' business by eventually handing over to him a fair old sum in damages for defamation, then by all means, he should let this thread continue on.
But if I were the OP though, I'd be asking MSE to scrap it. ASAP.0 -
I assumed Paul Adams was the company name as he said " Paul Adams and co".
He's not finished work and not returned even though it's been brought to his companies attention
That's worthy of a warning.
Many companies on these threads have put right wrongs after bad publicity .
Many companies small and large get vents and warnings.
It's best not to post personal details, I agree.its against the forum rules.0 -
Thank you all so much for your interest, support and criticisms. To clear things up a bit, I paid the quotation price in full and in cash. I don't now have an invoice, or a receipt for the cash. The job isn't finished because there is the snagging I detailed in the original post. I have written to Mr Adams. I have hand delivered a letter to his door, met a member of his family who confirmed he was well. Occasionally, when getting through on the phone he made promises to return to finish the work when he had time before Christmas, then his son, he worked on the original job with him I believe said before the New Year. Now all phone calls go unanswered from several different phone numbers.
I just want to find different approaches to the problem I have missed. Paul Adams presents himself as a company of general builders, decorators, roofing contractors. I have no reason to worry about libelling him as I am writing only the truth, not opinions.
Thanks again all and any more suggestions will be gratefully received.:coffee:0 -
I'm writing to Mr Adams at Paul Adams & Co today and sending the letter recorded delivery. I'm asking him once more to come and finish the job within 2 weeks. I'm explaining that if he doesn't I'll get in another contractor and when I've paid him, I'll send Mr Adams the bill so he can reimburse me. I'll let you know what happens.:coffee:0

LBA letter before action might be better with a threat of recovery via small claims court .
Just sending a bill is something that he can ignore .0 -
Do I understand this correctly - a large amount in cash paid to someone and not given an invoice or a receipt? How would you prove you've ever paid anything?0

The standard of proof required may be less than absolute. I do have phone logs and recorded phone conversations, witnesses of work done, cash withdrawals from the bank and more. From the start of the problem, though annoyed that I placed too much trust in him and his team, I did have reason to trust his integrity. I was wrong. Of course I want to restrict his ability to act without integrity going forward. He does need to learn that he will suffer for his lack of integrity and I do have a duty to instigate that lesson. He needs to learn that there are consequences. It is not a cause celebre, I would not devote huge time to it, but sufficient to make him regret his actions.:coffee:0

A cash withdrawal tells nothing apart from you took out cash as do record logs for your phone apart from that you made the call - the phone recordings could be used but only I think in acceptance of their use by the other person on the other line.
What did your witnesses see?
Did you get a written quote explaining what work was to be carried out?
Did it specifically state more than 1 coat of paint?Dont rock the boat

Perhaps i've mislead about what I'm doing. This man has acted badly and is avolding his obligations, his promises. Through social media like this, through the letters I've sent out to everyone I know who's connected to him his failures are being broadcast. He will suffer the consequences of his failure of integrity. He has put himself outside honest society. He can immediately reverse that by doing as he promised. A court case, should I chose that route, would be a problem for him, lose or win. Pier pressure is a better bet, though people outside tend to garner the support of others on the outside. Sooner or later though, potential clients will see media about him and embarrass him. I will keep sporadic firing off in the media to make sure there are consequences for his deplorable behaviour.:coffee:0

Im not sure what sort of pressure a large structure protruding into the sea could make im afraid.
Could you answer my questions too please?Dont rock the boat
