Just a word of, there has been lots in the paper about sofa companies being short on cash and maybe trying to refinance:

If you have to order from SCS or Land of Leather, you can't take the goods away, then don't pay cash!!!! take the finance, or do it on a credit card. That way if they go pop, you don't lose money.
SCS shares halved in value in a week!!
Out of interest, I have a DFS sofa, it's been ok, but the main benefit has been the Guardsman protection. Yes we paid for it, but have claimed about 4 times, with another one to ring about from a bad weekend (the kids party, nothing of my doing) and are now of 1st name terms with the lady who does the cleaning. But then we bought it when eldest was 1 and the second was on the way, so we expected a few spills etc. etc. And no I don't work for them, and I probably wouldn't buy from them again, but that is just cos of the comments on here.
Guys: Please dont but from SCS. I am learning - to my utter dismay that their after sales is CRAP!!! Dont say afterwards you weren't warned! I wish I'd gone to M & S now.
Now we know what SCS stand for: S ells C rap S ofas :mad:0 -

Definitely agree- do not buy from SCS, we just had a lucky escape: We went in on the weekend and saw a sofa that was very nice had a scratch down the front for which the price had been reduced. We paid cash and organised pick up for yesterday. When we arrived the sofas were broken. The staff were rude and unhelpful and really did not care. They just said "Take it or leave it we dont care". After going back managed to get a refund but the manager was not apologetc abot wasting our time our the terrible customer service we had experienced. Very glad I got my money back and will not be ging there unless...... has it really gone bust?0

Possible takeover for SCS
http://uk.reuters.com/article/rbssConsumerGoodsAndRetailNews/idUKWLA517120080623
"ScS shares, which were suspended on Monday, closed at 6.5 pence on Friday, valuing the business at about 2.2 million pounds. Less than two years ago, the shares were worth more than 5 pounds apiece"I hate migraines.0 -
Thanks for this thread guys, I'm looking to buy my first ever sofa for my first flat :T and I'm glad i read this as I've seen a few in DFS/SCS that I was considering.
Does anyone have experience of the Sofa Workshop?
I've also found this site http://www.lavenderbluelondon.co.uk/ which seems to have some fab sofas at great prices - any opinions on this?0 -
May I offer some advice..
DO NOT BUY FROM SCS OR DFS. Basically they sell you a Sofa at a highly inflated price. Tell you it's interest free so you are tempted. The quality is poor at best. From experience I have had two from SCS and both have ended up on the scrap heap. I eventually got my money back.
To coin a phrase " Aint no such thing as a free lunch" and this is def the case with these two firms.
Please do your home work and go to John Lewis or Marks and Spencer. At least if you have a problem they will sort it out. I can tell you that both SCS and DFS have very poor customer Service and I really would not want anyone to go through all the hassle I have. Nearly TWO YEARS to get my money back.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED..
Its up to you but id say find a diferent place to buy your sofas fromOCTOBER/NOVEMBER WINS- HOLIDAY TO DUBAI/IPAD 2/KINDLE AND LOTS OF OTHER OTHER LITTLE BITS I LOVE COMPING!!!0 -
I have just ordered 2 sofa's from a guy who runs his own furniture business and sells his furniture on EBAY. His feedback on the furniture and sofa's is all 100%, the price is half the cost of store bought sofa's, he makes them to order and therefore I can get my sofa's to exactly my specifications - which as I have a small house is perfect !0
