Failed MOT Ford KA
Options
My 2002 Ford Ka has just failed its MOT
on a number of things including, a but of welding to the nearside front, shock absorber nearside rear needs replacing and wishbone on front offside needs replacing.
Whats the consensuses is it worth paying the £350-450 to get it through the MOT or cut my losses now before the dreaded welding every year begins. I know i wont really get another car for the cost it will be to fix but i dont want to keep spending money waiting for it to fall apart.
HELP!!

If all your money can afford is banger cars then you will need to do work every year. That's the price of sub £1k cars!
If it's otherwise a good car get the work done.
Next year look yourself and get some filler0 -
Sound like its ready for the scrap heap to me.0

On the "Kill it" side, it's a 14yo Ka needing welding.
On the "Fix it" side, it's only failed on one small bit of welding, and a couple of bits of routine maintenance.
Your choice.0 -
Generally speaking, it is cheaper to repair your existing car than to replace it.
£350 - £400 doesn't seem a lot to spend to keep your car road worthy for another 12 months... and on the plus side, you'll have a car with a new strut/wishbone and repaired bodywork.
If the welding is done properly, it will not need doing again in 12 months. As that £400 includes the other work, this tells me that the welding work is a small job. If there are no advisories regarding further corrosion, then fears of annual welding jobs are unfounded.0 -

I think it has begun. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
Bear in mind, if it's got no MoT currently it's got almost no value. Even if you want to get a new car, the best financial option might be to spend the £400 now and sell it with a year's MoT. Might be worth £750, £1000? Maybe more, depending on overall condition, mileage etc.0

That's utter rubbish about the sub 1k cars btw.
I'd take the mileage and the age of the car and judge whether it's worth it. The engines on the Duratec Ka's aren't bad.0 -

What's utter rubbish?
The engine may be a good one, who cares... most cars go to the scrap heap with good engines these days anyway.
Usually stupid things like ops needing a patch that send them there.
Op owns cars from banger territory, like it or not, that's what it is0
