I'd disagree I was declined By M&S, rang them and they were very helpful why I was declined, all made sense and I can now wait a while and reapply.
John
So what did they say? Did they give you specific reasons as to why you were declined? Or did they just point you in the direction to check your credit reference files?I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Thanks Candyapple, but it was the credit card people who were confused
if I was pre-approved (which I was) and hadn't lied on the eligibility calculator (which I didn't) as long as my ID checked out (which it does - same house for 29 years and on electoral role for 50 years) she said the signature form does not check your credit records again, only the ID part. And by the way I do earn in excess of £38,000, so affordability isn't the problem.
Thanks for your response John, hopefully they'll come back to me to let me know what the issue is.0 -
Yes Candyapple the email letter pointed me to my Experian credit file, which I am a member of, I have a credit score of 919 so this shouldn't be a problem either. The strange thing is the credit card company could not understand why I was pre-approved and then declined, they are looking into it and I am waiting a call back.0

Your score of 919 means nothing though, lenders don't see it.0 -
Just a quick question on a similar note. Although I usually get a lot of high rated approval indications the one I just tried came in quite low. I know i have one credit card where I have exceeded my limit by about only £60. Would this affect the results greatly? I just paid it off but was wondering if this was indeed the problem how long it would take to change my credit outlook. Incidentally my score at Clearscore is showing as good with no problems.0

Any previous problems with an MBNA based card that might not show on credit files now?

Hi just to let you have an update, I have a call back from MBNA and query resolved! I had entered a different (lower) amount on my income on the eligibility calculator than on the form. Doh! What is so annoying is that the higher amount was the correct one and I was pre-approved on the lower amount. But at least I know what the problem was and why it didn't work. Thanks for all your responses.

Scary it could be something so simple, but checks like that are there for a reason.
Glad you got it sorted.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Candy apple,
Yes they gave specifics, lots of recent searches, number of new accounts and short period in my employment all lowered my score to the point they could not accept my application.
I have a M&S current account but recently opened advised to wait 6 months and apply again. OP glad you got sorted, enjoy your card.
