Where do you buy affordable meat?

  • I buy my meat direct from a local farmer.

In my case price-wise it's just slightly less than Aldi, but the quality is so much better. One example being Tamworth free-range pork vs pork pumped with water and preservatives.

The meat is fully traceable, I'm currently eating a heifer called Gilbert.

By cutting out the middle man the farmers also make more money so everyone's a winner.
I wouldn't go back to supermarket meat but the challenge might be finding a local farmer to you. For me its local knowledge. I guess you could try a local farm shop or a local farmers market.

Wouldn't Gilbert be the farmer's name rather than the cow, who would probably be Gilbertina if she had a name?
  • Its the boy calves that go for meat. The girls are kept for milk.
The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.
