Where do you buy affordable meat?

Not all the best protein comes from meat. Indeed egg whites are 100% protein
Milk and cheese are also good sources, as are lentils and legumes
I would gen up more on what your body needs and find cheaper more efficient ways of getting the protein you need0 -
Aldi or local butcher for me.0

Sadly not everyone has access to a good local butcher.
I've used muscle food - my husband weight trains and oh my goodness does he go through some chicken. Their chicken breasts are £5 per kilo and you normally get 20-25 chickens in a £25 box. They are huge! and don't shrink very much. In terms of animal welfare, its all red tractor and responsibly sourced but sometimes not British (don't know if that bothers you?).
They have steaks, and the usual stuff but they write down how much protein is in each. They even have high protein ice cream and chocolate and high protein pizza! They're yummy.
If you've got access to a meat wagon - usually crop up in markets or at car boots with us, they're pretty good and you can haggle there. Especially if you're buying in bulk and its not like you don't have the strength to get it all back to the car.
I'd look at other high protein ways of bulking meals up, some veggies are packed, legumes etc. A really high meat diet will mean that you're on the sofa some nights as I know my hubby can do some really potent trouser burps. lolBack in the red :mad:

If you really want to take a risk with hygene and arent bothered about the supply chain0 -
I buy my meat direct from a local farmer.
In my case price-wise it's just slightly less than Aldi, but the quality is so much better. One example being Tamworth free-range pork vs pork pumped with water and preservatives.
The meat is fully traceable, I'm currently eating a heifer called Gilbert.
By cutting out the middle man the farmers also make more money so everyone's a winner.
I wouldn't go back to supermarket meat but the challenge might be finding a local farmer to you. For me its local knowledge. I guess you could try a local farm shop or a local farmers market.0 -
I read your body cant absorb as protein as people think.
so you might be flushing halve of it down the pan.“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Yes agree Pro.....54g per day, so best to eat the cheapest protein.....have I mentioned liver, eggs and milk powder...and to get six pack muscles best to tone up on cheap carbs.0

M'father cut an excellent deal with the local butcher shortly after Chernobyl - he did the maths on radioactivity contamination & got nearly twelve lambs at cost. (No other physicists could be bothered.)
They now have a bigger freezer, friendly relations with an organic farm & (if I understand them correctly) collect the next instalment of the current cow on their way back from orchestra. Mum's a little uncertain about boxes labelled "Gery" but Dad has a replete smile...0 -

I speak as I find. Where I live they're hygiene regulated and usually buy direct from the farmers to cut the middle men out....Back in the red :mad:

Agree with finding a good local butcher. I use one that delivers in the North West. They do monthly deals which are great value and usually last me 2 months, as I buy extras which are cheaper when buying a deal.Grocery Challenge 2024
