Best way to report missed payments on credit card

My credit card company messed up my direct debit; so the account was defaulted, they agreed it was their fault and said that they've corrected it but it's still causing me problems (I asked an account that had reduced my card limit to increase it and it needed to go to an underwriter and loads of questions followed, even though the underwriter at Halifax agreed that my history was fine). Is there another way I can ask the company that made the mistake to report this so that my file looks more like someone who always pays cards on time?
It's currently showing as £0 paid, but a green tick.
Would I be better off closing the account?
Can they redate the account so that the months of £0 don't show on the report?
I added a note to the file when it was defaulted to explain, when the card company changed the mark from defaulted to paid £0 then the note went away, should I put this back (I think this would stop all automatic acceptances?)
I don't consider myself in debt (savings > debt balance), I use credit cards to stooze, so a clean credit history is important to me, although I'm not bothered about any agency's made-up number.

Do you mean your account has late payment markers on it rather than you receiving a default?

It had a no payment marker, then defaulted, then paid (but paid £0); I spoke to the credit card company who agreed the DD issue was their fault, and said that they would correct it. It is now showing as paid on time, but the value of the payment is £0. My question was is there a better way (for me) for them to record this. There is nothing on the credit to report to say that it was a late payment, but are you saying that the fact it is showing as £0 for two months and then £3x minimum payment + penalties would show up as a late payment? Even though I see a green tick?
I complained with the Financial Ombudsman Service and got an apology and compensation for the hassle, but I'm still having trouble getting my card limits reinstated due to this paid £0 record (which is right as the DD failed so I didn't pay anything that month). The DD guarantee only obligates the company to pay me back if they take too much, not any credit reporting as a result of not taking the DD.
They (Post Office) messed it up by saying the DD was set up but then not setting it up so the minimum wasn't paid, when I contacted them to complain they took so long to do anything that the account was defaulted before it was sorted out.

While they messed up the direct debit. There was nothing to stop you making payments. Didn't you read your statements or wonder why your bank balance was so high? £0 paid is a fair reflection of the circumstances.0

Hey Thrugelmir, I was out of the country while this happened, and the PO don't have online access for credit cards so I couldn't see what had happened while I was away, I read my statements when I got back and made the payments within an hour of getting home. I set up manual payments for the first two minimums, because they said it could take a while to get the DD sorted, but didn't notice the lack of £40 on my bank statement until I had time to go over it when I got back. One of the reasons I have everything on DD is so that I can go away and not worry about bills being paid (and I mentioned this to the PO when I set up the DD and gave them my mobile numbers in case something went wrong).
I agree that I could have noticed that the DD wasn't coming out of my bank earlier. The ombudsman ruled that the lack of payments wasn't my fault and the Post Office should set my credit file to where it would have been if the DD had been set up. Given that I'm having issues with credit checks now that I never had before, the credit file isn't reflecting how it would be if the DD had gone through, so I'm looking if there is an alternative way the PO can clean the file up.
Is there anything else you would suggest if you didn't think I was at fault?0 -
Someone looking at the data would see the green tick (everything paid when it should be) and £0 paid that month. The assumption would be that you owed nothing during that month.

Hey JimmyTheWig, that was what I thought too, until I used the MSE credit card checker and it only offered me credit builder cards, and then I spoke to the Halifax underwriter and she said that this account was flagging as a problem (ie the computer was saying no but she spoke to me about the history and thought it was fine).0

That's odd.
I wonder if it just took some time to update?
Presumably at some point the account had a marker on it to say that you hadn't paid (i.e. it didn't have the green tick). I wonder if the reports that the MSE credit card checker and Halifax were using were still showing this marker.
Unless anyone who knows more about it comes along, I'd suggest leaving it a month and trying the MSE credit card checker again.0
