Sofa bed?

Will need to use it 1 or 2 times a week. Worth spending £1000 on a good one from DFS? Or a cheap?
The good one had a memory foam mattress. Some others I found had pocket sprung mattresses which was nice as you could put a memory foam topper on top of them to make even more comfortable.
Any suggestions?

Always a compromise, and if you are sleeping in it a few times a week, then concentrate on the mattress.
Personally, I find the relatively cheap blocks of foam, with a mattress topper on top, better than expensive sofa beds that can never have a good mattress, but is very personal.0 -
http://www.johnlewis.com/house-by-john-lewis-kix-double-sofa-bed/p2055835?colour=Florence%20Steel gets good reviews on John Lewis for £245, add a nice topper and you've got a bargain.
Ikea do a range where you can choose from 3 types of mattress, add a coloured cover......we have the double with the best mattress and the storage box. Have had it a few years and are very pleased.

If you use the name to check out the spec on the mattress page you can see a little more info.
I personally wouldn't touch DFS with a bargepole.0 -
How often would you sleep on it?0

The OP says they'd use it once or twice a week, and I assume they mean to sleep on.
I'd say it would be well worth spending money on a decent sofa bed if it will be used this often. It's not just the quality of the mattress that matters - in my experience cheap sofa beds are not only uncomfortable but have poor quality mechanisms that will break with regular use, certainly within a year or two.
If you are considering spending up to £1000 or so I would look at John Lewis or Willow and Hall rather than DFS. Willow and Hall has a showroom in Chiswick now but we bought sight unseen from their website and haven't regretted it for a moment.0 -
We bought a John Lewis pocket sprung mattress sofa bed. It's very comfy to sit on and sleep on. It did cost about £700 though. Our cheaper M&S foam mattress one is about dead after 8 years although John Lewis one is still going strong.0

The sofa bed I looked at in DFS was this one-

And in SCS one (£1000 for double bed size)-

The one from John Lewis was £1600.
Is it really worth paying £1600 for a John Lewis one?
The SCS was pocket sprung so could throw a memory foam topper on, but the DFS one was memory foam, so I guess you couldn't put any extra topper on!0 -
Could you not got to their store and check it?0

Is it worth paying the extra £600 for the John Lewis one. Actually the King size one from DFS is £1200 anyhow so it's an extra £400. The SCS is £1000 for double. Are SCS and DFS that bad?
Also, is it not a good idea to throw a memory foam topper on a memory foam already mattress?0
