URGENT please help: Massive BT Infinity bill imminent

It's simply so that they can advertise a lower headline price for FTTC. Eventually everyone who falls for it has to upgrade to Unlimited. Classic bait and switch selling.
The first year of having Infinity with the cap of 40GB, we were paying less and using less (around 12-15GB). When my mother started to watch soaps and catchup stuff I had to upgrade as we were using around 70GB ( the last time I saw the usage), thus paying a bit more.
OP: BT does let you upgrade in the middle of the month if you see you are going to go over limit. However I never saw the usage monitor once I switched to unlimited. Only the message "There was no chargeable usage in that period." It was with the 40GB cap tariff I was able to monitor the usage. So it would sort of indicate that it was an unlimited package.SPC 08 - #452 - £415
SPC 09 - #452 - £2980 -

I don't think you've been scammed by a major provider..
Well done getting it sorted out and, yes, wise to screenshot when upgrading online!0 -
I would like to believe I made a mistake, and hold my hands up to it...
But I recall definitely making sure I had the order correct before confirming. I messaged TopCashBack, and I got a reply saying my cashback was indeed for an "Unlimited" package.0 -

If you have BT TV watching the catch up services through the BT vision box does not count towards your broadband limit.0 -
It is possible that BT had a 'glitch' here. I recently had an order go through incorrectly when I upgraded from standard broadband to Infinity 2. I placed an order for the upgrade, changing my call plan at the same time and I remember specifically being told about having to swap out my BT Home Hub 4 for a Home Hub 5 which you need for an Infinity service. Order went through and I got a confirmation email thanking me for my Infinity 2 order. I could track it online, but it only mentioned the calls package change. 3 separate web chats to BT asking whether I would be getting Infinity, to be told 'Yes, everything is fine'. Then on the day it was due to go live - order completed, no Infinity and no new Home Hub. Called BT and they told me that the order never included an Infinity upgrade, despite me being advised that I needed the new home hub, 3 web chats confirming I was, and the order confirmation email thanking me for my order for Infinity 2.
Only good thing to come out of it was a £5 discount per month when the person on the phone re-placed the order. It did take me over a month to get Infinity though.0 -
Does anyone have advice for getting the price of the service down to £15pm as it should have been?
It would save £120 if I can.0
