After 6 months of chasing Thomson for a 4 hour delay, I received a letter today with a cheque for the equivalent of 800 euro.
The sterling equivalent was £563. which works out at 1.41 exchange rate- ridiculously high!
What date/exchange rate do they use for the calculation?

Double post ..... obviously Thomson use a rate which benefits them and basically there is little or nothing you can do about it short of taking court action. You then run the risk of getting a judge who sides with the airline and your court costs will outweigh any benefit of a problem with an exchange rate.0

This has been discussed before and I can't remember if it was concluded that there was a single right answer (ie rate at the time of the delay vs at the time of the claim being paid). I would expect the rate to have some basis in the actual rates whichever date is used. In any event, I think 111KAB is absolutely right.
(PS Looking at the exchange rates on Yahoo Finance, the rate was last over 1.40 at the beginning of December 2015!)0
