Not sure if it has been clarified yet ... on the voucher or receipt, does it state that any refund for the product purchased is conditional on return of the voucher otherwise the value of the voucher will be deducted? Is this clearly stated anywhere by Argos?0

Terms & conditions
If your product(s) have qualified for a free Argos voucher/Argos giftcard and you return them under our 30 day money back guarantee, the free Argos voucher/Argos gift card must be returned. If the qualifying products aren't returned then the Argos voucher/Argos Giftcard amount will be deducted from the money refunded.
Our 30 day money back guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, in particular any right you have to return the goods under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations.0 -

In any event as I've said, the OP didn't purchase (and wasn't given) a £5 gift card. It was a discount voucher to be used on future purchases. It has no value in OP's original purchase. It would only have value for the future transaction - if OP chose to enter into it.
And also, OP can't be bound by terms they had no knowledge of at the time of entering into the contract.
This isn't like ordering a tablet with a free case.
The OP hasn't said it was faulty0 -

As I said earlier in the thread, this relates to items returned under their own policy - they don't state the same for faulty returns. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

To be fair to you he was asked to clarify exactly what was wrong with it and hasn't.0 -
Well, in the space of 90 minutes you went from not thinking that you used the voucher to definitely not using it.I don't think I ever spent the voucher which had a timescale on it.
Maybe with your poor recall you did in fact use it or gave it to someone else to use and have forgotten about it.I didn't spend the voucher.0 -
Thanks for all the 'helpful' advice. Today I produced the t's and c's and drew their attention to number 18. The tablet as I stated earlier was bought in October so the 30 day rule does not apply.
I was therefore refunded the full £80.
Ps. Dearest MSE, I came to you with a consumer issue and expected sincere advice. I am surprised you allow 'unhelpful' (bordering on abusive) posts.
Very surprised and disppointed.0 -

I'm sure you can use your refund to purchase a bigger pram to throw your toys out of
