  • I won't be able to use statements from my old home, as the DWP will say they're out of date, and my old GP obviously hasn't seen me since I moved so she won't be able to say how I am now, and I have gone downhill since this move to this prison

At the end of the day hun whatever is going to happen will happen so best not to worry about something you have no control over really as stress is a killer.. once you get the decision then you can control what you do next (job, studies, HB etc)

As humans we learn to adapt and whatever happens I'm sure you will too ! good luck =)

I am talking from experience too as I use to worry about everything and I was like why? we are all going to die eventually.. live is to be enjoyed !! so enjoy it while you can and are well, healthy and alive.
  • Roxy, I'm not well or healthy and have nothing to enjoy. I hope one day I can find the peace you have within, but comments like that aren't helping me right now. I know I'm in a mess and don't need my nose rubbing in it. I'm sure you didnt mean to be patronising, but that's how it sounds.

tomtontom, this is not a great area for support, think "one flew over the cuckoos nest" and I am scared they will section me.

You'll find the same for mental health services throughout the NHS. But you need to make the best of what is on offer, rather than seeing/ expecting the worst in everything. Have a look at the website for the mental health trust and see what services they offer, note these down to ask your GP about them. If they say no, then ask what is available, it may be a case of trying different services/ therapies until you find the right one for you.

It's very difficult to help yourself when you're in the depths of mental illness, but the fact is no one else is going to do it for you.
  • OP, your new GP will be able to look at your 'past' case notes, which in turn will assist in preparing a new report for you. He will also listen carefully to how you feel 'today' - so try to give a detailed explanation to put him in the picture.

I hope everything goes well for you, and that in time you will receive the help you need to rebuild your life. At the moment you may feel you are in a dark place, but with the right help your situation can change. I'm sure that many of us who post here - hope that it does :)
  • Thank you Mr C; I feel a bit "boy who cried wolf" - after years resisting help and repeatedly screwing up, I now desperately wish I had seized the opportunities but, at the time, I didn't think I had the problem, everyone else had the problem not me.

Op, after the phone call is made (really nothing to worry about), they will send you the form to fill in, in our case it took 10 days to arrive, then you have 4 weeks from date of form to send it back, so if your 1st GP appt is today, you should have time to see them again, so they can build up a picture of your illness. Ask them if they would be prepared to write you a supporting letter or could give you an extract of your medical notes from your previous GP to present as evidence.
Try keeping a diary of your everyday life & how your mental health issues affect you, this can be sent in with the form or given to the assessor at your appt.
  • The gp was already running late and I explained to the receptionist that I didn't want to be clock watching as I knew I needed longer than a 10minute slot, so they gave pre booked me a 30 min appt for Thursday. I've made a list of things I need to tell the gp about, things I'd like to find out the support options for, and by then the forms should have arrived. I haven't seen the gp yet but the receptionists and nurses have had so much patience and tried to juggle things to minimise my stress, feeling hopeful-ish
  • Glad the new Drs surgery seem understanding. The very best of luck with it all.

I read this forum a fair bit and it always seems to me those who fight the system are the ones who tend to lose out (maybe they are just more vocal about it) but those who arm themselves with how the PIP descriptors work and how best they apply to their condition, turn up to appointments and jump through all the hoops calmly tend to be ok. But thats only based on an outsider view so maybe misguided.

Apart from that nothing really to add but good luck and think positive.
