Motorola Cracked screen

HI there, couldn't find anything on a search so here goes....
Have a Motorola V3i, and the screen is cracked. I have insurance which I had forgotten about, but I have to pay £25 excess. I can get an upgrade in January.
Do I go to the local shop to see if I can get a new screen, wait till January and get a new phone, or go with the insurance?
The insurance is costing £8 a month and have been paying for years, never claimed! Any better ideas?
Hope all that makes sense!

its around £15-£20 for a screen on ebay, so by the time a shop does it for you it could be about £25-£300
