I know, but I can get myself to the loo easily enough but wouldnt be so sure my young children could during the night if loo was downstairs.
What age is middle-aged? Not sure if I am there yet or not!0 -

Also, children tend not to have drunk as much alcohol as grownups, making the stagger downstairs more treacherous.;)0 -
Yeah I wouldn't be keen on having a downstairs bathroom with a young family. It'd make things quite a bit harder.0

We lived in a modern house with a downstairs bathroom when DS was a baby and then toddler.....it was ideal! We spent most of our time downstairs anyway, so it was very handy.
I have to say, now though, as we are older, an upstairs loo is vital!0 -

If you were that bad it's unlikely you'd have made it upstairs in the first place.0 -

Dartford is not in zone 6... so it's not in 'London' ..anyway personally I have only looked at properties with downstairs bathrooms that were 3 beds so could move the bathroom up at some point. Or you get those room off a room set ups were you could ensuite one bedroom.
I think for kids it's an issue as getting them up in the night etc and downstairs.
But saying all that I would 100% buy a house over a flat, and I think Dartford has improved a lot over the last few years.0 -
My bathroom is downstairs but not the same layout. Mine is off the hall so we don't have to go through the kitchen to get there. I don't mind at all, it was great when I was on crutches as I could be downstairs all day and get about and only went upstairs once at bedtime.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0

I had a similar house once. Downstairs bathroom great for kids but we put a small ensuite in the recess over the stairs in the bedroom. Worked very well.
House would be optimum with the kitchen going onto the garden and I do know people who have move the bathroom forward so the kitchen goes right at the back.
If you are young and fit no problem really although not fond of doing a no 2 downstairs when people are around.
I would buy, save for small ensuite then one day convert roof space into a master, knock the kitchen into the garden retaining just a small downstairs toilet. Extra space could be found in one of the bedrooms buy taking the chimney breast out.
House has heaps of potential, including the opportunity to build over kitchen.
Very good price for Dartford as well.

I would yes, but I would be put off by the fact it looks like you have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. I don't think it would be a deal breaker if I otherwise liked the house- but that house doesn't appeal to me at all.0
