Damp/Stain Block Paint

I know you can buy damp block and stain block paint individually but I currently have two of those problems and was wondering whether there is a product out there will helps to eliminate both of these problems or will I have to buy each paint individually?

What is the current problem? What surface type, and where?

There is usual a better solution than applying a paint.

I've replastered walls in the bedroom which dried fine and then went ahead to paint and now there as these brown patches which are stains on the wall and no matter how many times I paint over it always reappeares.

Plus in other rooms particularly underneath the window frames there are damp patches which was caused by penetrating rain which has since been dealt with but im left with the damp patches to sort out.

    Any suggestions?

They are just places that have been polished by the plasterer too much. Just sand down this area and repaint and it will be fine.

Let the damp areas dry out before repainting.

I have this exact same problem in my freshly plastered cellar and it is what I am currently doing, though I haven't stopped the water ingress yet!

I shall sand the wall down and hope that sorts the problem.

Is it worth buying damp block paint and applying it on the damp patches and then paint over it?

it might be an bit of an improvement, but the damp block will leave a different texture in the area - even when you paint over with emulsion.

I wouldn't bother. Just allow the area to dry out (I would allow a few months) before repainting it.

We had rain coming in our chimney which made a small stain behind the fire, i painted and it kept coming back. In the end I used (and you may need to check my spelling) something from B&Q called Zinser Bin.
  • is there a product out there that helps both damp and stains on walls or will I need a seperate paint for both issues?
