It's a pretty harsh rule as I was in a similar situation to you, difference is I don't think I settled my debt with them, so they said no to me which is understandable, the harsh bit is that there are people on this forum who have successfully took out accounts with barclaycard again after previously defaulting, looks like if your lucks in your sorted, just take a credit card out elsewhere there are plenty to choose.0

I agree re credit checks but one shouldn't make much difference.
I wouldn't no, but I'm not in the business of lending money to make money or providing financial services to people. And I paid them back in full as I have with all my debts as I was careless with money at a young age and I have learnt a lesson the hard way, it's something that I think should be taught from an early age, the risks of borrowing and the implications it can have at an older age if you don't take responsibility or manage your finances effectively.
I do understand your point though and it does make sense not to lend to people who have defaulted in the past but that's the point of credit history I thought? My file on all 3 CRA shows my early 20s as being terrible and then from 26 onwards I've taken responsibility for a poor past cleared all debt and showed responsible borrowing via my current bank, I have an overdraft which I never go in to, mobile phone and broadband bills always paid in full and on time. At the start of this reply I said no I wouldn't but if I loaned money to someone all those years ago because they were having difficulties and didn't get paid back in full straight away and then 8 years later I could see they changed their ways then yes I'd consider it.0 -
Best thing to do is just move on and apply for a card somewhere else, it's not like there isn't plenty of other choices, pointless debating it really as barclaycard probably won't change there mind unless the policy changes, use the eligibility checker for credit cards and see what your chances are and apply for alternatives.0

Seems very strange about 10/12 yrs ago I had cards with them that ended up with debt collectors it didn't stop them giving me a card 2yrs ago.0

Yep I find it weird, I could understand if I still had history of bad credit or even poor history recently with them but that's not the case. Anyway to tomxlisa is correct I'll look elsewhere but outside of the barclaycard initial my eligibility is limited to the likes of capital one or Aqua but I don't think that's going to matter as it's just going to be used for fuel etc and paid in full each month.
Thanks for all your input0
