Glad it wasn't just me that couldn't negotiate a rolling contract with a new box! Possibly the norm then? New box = 12 month contract.0 -

Why would they offer you anything 'for free' without a new minimum term? Quid pro quo.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

So far I have got the cost down to £33 odd per month plus £50 credit - with a 12 month contract.
When I told them the box was starting to play up - they would not budge on a free engineer visit and were insistent on not providing a new box to me should an engineer visit say I need one - they went quiet when I told them I needed a box to receive programmes they were supplying and I was paying for!
So no agreement yet - 26 days to go!0 -
There are dozens of latest version boxes on Ebay. Some are expensive but have a 5 year warranty and others are about £20, if you collect locally, so avoid the P&P charge.0

Right had a live web chat with retentions - offered me the following deal 50% discount on variety and sports so £27.75 a month for 12 months but this time they would not discount the HD part so that would be £11.25 extra or £39 a month.
The bribe or credit they would be give me started at £50 then increased to £70 and then £100 - and the creme de la creme they offered me NO contract.
Tried the old trick of saying its only on offer now but I resisted (for now)
I am enjoying this now - will update further before my cancellation date 2 weeks from now.0 -

and a 12 month contract !
So what is the issue ? If you want the same as a new customer then they get a 12 month contract too
I always think if you're offered a really good deal then grabbing it is a good idea....You could call back in 2 weeks and get offered worse !
Bit of a gamble - especially at this time of the year !!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

You do have a contract which requires you to give 30/31 days' notice on leaving. What you don't have is a minimum term for that contract.0 -
Right who blinked first??
Came home to a missed call on my phone - googled the number it was Sky.
Logged into my sky account online and went on web chat and asked what was their best offer to retain my custom?
Opening offer was 35% off package for 12 months - not good!
Told them of previous offers and they looked at the notes on my account and we agreed to £33.37 per month + £100 credit - a result I think - was paying £50 last month and it would have gone up to £67 next.
Now going to see if I can get a cheap box off Ebay.
Thanks for all the comments on the thread.0 -
