Warm weather holiday - February break with places to explore?

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get away to spend time in the sun this Feb where I can explore historical sites etc? I'm trying to avoid Morocco, but wonder if the Canary Islands have somewhere that might suit? Can anyone advise? Many thanks

    Tenerife maybe?

Places like La Orotava, San Cristobal de la Laguna and even Santa Cruz de Tenerife have a fair bit to look at.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Tenerife. Don't forget Teide, it's amazing. Snow capped and visible from the beaches of La Tejita

Mexico would probably fit the bill. Yucatan has a fair few sights and I'm guessing that it'll be sunny.
  • we went to Furteventura a few years back in Feb. It was pleasant warm in the day, and cool at night, but never ending wind. It wasn't our sort of place, all a bit too man made without much to visit really. Maybe OK for those who like to just relax near the hotel. We stayed in corralejo, pretty enough, and the sand dunes were worth a look, but after a week we were ready to some home.

I'm baffled by this, not what we have experienced on our two visits at all. The island is volcanic and very naturally wild, I cannot see where the 'man-made' bit comes from at all!
Michele did you hire a car and go see the whole island, or were you confined to a hotel?

Cyprus? No idea about the weather but it's got Roman stuff dotted around and plenty of places to explore by car. I'm easily bored (lanzarotecwas was not for me), but Cyprus had plenty to keep me going for a fortnight.

I used to visit Fuerteventura regularly before it was developed (f!*#ed up in other words) and loved it. Miles of empty beaches, fascinating lava fields, extinct volcanoes, rugged coastline, lousy dirt roads and the odd minefield.

You are right about the unrelenting wind though.

it's still like that, you just have to look harder and go to the far-flung corners. Great dirt road from Esquinzo down to Morro Jable.
