Again, I'll stick with rumbled or sussed out.
Which, of course, you are free to do. The beauty of the English language is that it is rich enough that we have these choices of diction and don't need to listen to others who may try to impose their own word usage conventions by "correcting" others.

I have this card and I find more often than not I need to enter a PIN as I get an angry 'insert card' beep from the machine if I try contactless.

I've had used my PIN 3 times out of the last five, PIN used in Sainsburys on Sunday, then card used today and had to enter my PIN.

Very frustrating - I do not have this issue with my contactless AMEX, I seem to need to enter a PIN almost every time the transaction is over £20, regardless of the fact I have made a PIN transaction prior to it.

Are these cards logging are spending habits! or indeed smarter than that. Regards anything out the ordinary. Which i assume is the purpose to detect fraud. As i rarely have problems in retailers i use a lot.

I will be back to cash if the offer ends i am not looking forward to a cashless society which one would pay to spend via a transaction charge and maybe even to withdraw cash. They tried that one!

    A bit worrying

It has always been within the power of retailers to profile those who pay by card, contactless or not. They may not get quite as good a picture as if you use a loyalty card, since you might not always use the same card/payment type. Whether they actually do so I have no idea. Similarly, banks can see where you use your card.

If that sort of thing bothers you, then cash is your only option (and stay away from any loyalty cards and personalised discount vouchers).

I hate to break it to you, but if you shop with any major retailers, you'll probably find that you pay a transaction charge even when paying by cash - since the credit/debit card fees are usually loaded onto the price of goods. Very few have a transaction charge that only applies to card purchases.

    Thank you food for thought.

    Hi all,

Firstly can I ask you all to submit a complaint to TSB about this issue, as I have. Currently for me nearly 50% of the time contactless fails and they ask for my pin. TSB say it's for "security". Even though I shop in the same Aldi, the same day every week... they can't realise that trend.

Anyway... if we all complain they might sort themself out:

I don't think they think they have a problem; I think it's working as they have planned it. And even if they did eventually resolve what we see as a problem, the whole 5% cashback scheme finishes in a few weeks so would barely benefit us at all.

I spent £60 in 3 transactions on different terminals in the same shop last week. I thought that would have kicked up a security PIN.
  • the worst contactless card I have, constantly failing to work, lost out on loads of 5%, I make a point of using another cashback card every time this happens.

I don't understand this problem: had my TSB cl card since April and just had one blip. A visit to the atm cured that and I must have made dozens of purchases since.

If this happened to me so regularly I would complain at the branch and online. I would threaten to switch. If enough people with these issues do that, they have to take notice.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
