Normally I'd say a buyer should do their research and know what they're buying but I understand why, if you've spent years buying size 9 that all fit, you wouldn't think to check if they're different by entire size.
It should really be in the advert (it obviously makes a big difference!), but if the size matches than technically they are as described, it's just unfortunate for you that you didn't realise they were so much different to other size 9s.
That does mean it's up to you to pay for return postage. Myhermes, as suggested, is a good option for returning cheap.
Yes ever since my feet grew to their current size, I've never needed to check that a size 9 is actually a size 9 as every pair I've ever purchased until now has fit correctly  ah well, lesson learned there then!
I will see if they are willing to put it in their advert as from what people have said here, Sketchers are apparently well known for fitting large. It would make sense to at least mention it.0 -
My DH has been buying size 9 for the past 20 years, however, he recently had to go down to size 8 with his work boots and also some of the trainers, as suddenly they all have become too big for him!
With sketchers, I've also found it that although I am a size 8, i have to buy size 7, I too had to pay return postage, however, lesson learned and I simply don't buy them now. As you say, you live and learn!0 -

They sell them on QVC the shopping channel and the Rep always tells to go down a size. They expect people to try them on in shops or from QVC you get a 30 day money back guarantee. to know the correct size.
I have to buy children's size 2 in Sketchers.0 -
Forgot to add Fitflops are same, a pair of size 8 I bought 5 years ago were huge and again, I had to exchange them to 7, then recently purchased pair was a bit more acurate to UK sizing and 8 was perfect. Then Fitflop boots are on a small size, and I couldn't even fit into a size 80

I own around 10 pairs of Skechers. Some are 10+ years old and I've always bought a 6. I don't find them large sizes.
I've been a 6 since I was 14.
OP what size dos it say inside the tongue of the shoe?
If it says a 9 then there's not much you can do unles you can prove the seller changed the label. Which seems like a lot of effort to go to just to miss sell some shoes, why would they do that when they could just sell them for the actual size they are?Sigless0
