Wrong size trainers

I purchased some new size 9 Sketchers from a seller on eBay. When the trainers arrived, my first thought was gosh these look big. Having tried them on, they were clearly too large.

All my other shoes, trainers etc are size 9 and I've never had a problem with fit before. I measured them against some other size 9 shoes that I own (not scientific I know) and there was a noticeable size difference.

Upon contacting the seller, they are happy to refund but they will not refund my return postage as they are saying there is no problem with the sizing. I sent them photo's which show how much bigger they are than other size 9 shoes and their response was that different trainers size different, which might be the case, but these are clearly way too big to be the correct size.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

If the retailer has sent the correct product, then why should they pay your return postage?

Do they not have the size written on? Usually trainers have it on somewhere.

Because they're seemingly the wrong size...

Sizes do vary a bit between brands but if they is a pretty big difference in comparison to all their other size 9 shoes then chances are they're not a size 9.

With Sketchers you always have to go down a size. They are all wide and larger fitting.

That's the point, they don't appear to be the correct product. Anyone can stick a label on stating something is one size when they are not.

The size difference is big enough to see when compared to other size 9 shoes. There is a label on them which says size 9, but they would fit at least a size 10.

Should this be put in an advert stating that Sketchers are a larger fitting size? I've never bought Sketchers before and this is the first I've heard that you need to purchase a size smaller

Footwear sizes vary, same as clothes sizes. Sketchers are one of the companies who's footwear are on the generous side.

Do they not have the size on the actual shoe? USA sizes are bigger than UK so even if it was a USA 9 then it would only be a UK size 7. Skechers do come up bigger though but probably not a whole size. Unless they are fake but then you would need to be able to prove this with written confirmation from Skechers.

Unless it has the wrong size on the shoe then you will just have to accept you need to return and pay for it. My Hermes would let you have a fully tracked return for £2.78.

They do have the size on them saying UK 9. But I'm sure it would not be difficult to get that wrong. They are definitely at least a size too big but thanks for the info about the cheap return

Sellers often seem to (wrongly) assume all buyers know such things.

Normally I'd say a buyer should do their research and know what they're buying but I understand why, if you've spent years buying size 9 that all fit, you wouldn't think to check if they're different by entire size.

It should really be in the advert (it obviously makes a big difference!), but if the size matches than technically they are as described, it's just unfortunate for you that you didn't realise they were so much different to other size 9s.

That does mean it's up to you to pay for return postage. Myhermes, as suggested, is a good option for returning cheap.
