Ditched Sky, kept the content I need and saved £££££££

Thought I'd share my story in case it helps anyone.
I've had Sky for years, mainly for watching 1 particular Premier League team and the occasional F1 race. But also, the wife watches a few movies and Disney Junior gets watched a lot by the youngest.
But £76 a month was just too much.
For movies and Sport, I'm a bit of an HD snob, so the options out there didn't appear to be great. Until I dug a bit deeper....
I've got BT Infinity, so to add all BT's entertainment channels (including Disney Junior) and BT Sport in HD is £21 per month.
Now TV through Apple TV is in HD so:
-Entertainment (Sky channels mainly) is £7
-Sky Movies are £10
-and the big saving is to go PPV on football at £7 a match, unless matches are clustered together and makes sense to get a weekly or monthly pass.
So on the face of it by switching, my monthly cost is now £45 per month, assuming 1 match per month. A saving of £31 per month, £372 year
However, with Now TV, I am constantly in a renewal situation, so by cancelling regularly to get deals and buying passes on ebay, my actual monthly outgoings over the past 8 months have been:
- BT £21
- Now TV Sport £10.12
- Now TV Movies £6.35
- Now TV Entertainment £3.63
A total of £41.10 per month. That's nearly £35 per month or £420 per year saving compared to getting the lot through Sky, without missing anything.
And all that has been during the football season, so I'll save more in the summer.
And lastly, switching viewing between a BT box and Apple TV was a bit of a drag, so I bought a Logitech universal remote which switches my TV, Amp, Apple TV and BT box into the right configuration with one button press. It's like magic.
Mix and match TV, it's the future!

You'll probably find there is a 50% off offer sitting in your 'mysky' account.
I cancelled my subscription and then was given 50% off and a £50 bill credit. The full sky package (Family + Movies/Sports/HD Pack) comes in at £37.62 per month or £33.45 with £50 credit.
Must admit, I quite like the nowtv offering, we get 12 months free with Vodafone.0 -

They have been sending increasingly good offers every couple of months. I think the best was 60%. However I'm tied into BT for 12 months so I can't at the moment even if I wanted to.
The ludicrous thing is that when I cancelled, I told them exactly the maths above and said I'd stay with them for £50 a month. The best they offered was 25% off. Idiots.
I'm not even sure I'll go back now even at the same price. I quite like the flexibility of switching stuff off when I don't need them, or dumping Sky Movies and getting Netflix without the hassle.0 -
Ha!
Sky sent me a new offer. Full package for £25 / month. Well that's too good to refuse even though I'm still contracted to BT for 4 months. New combined monthly price = £46/month until June then £29 / month for everything.
But wait. Phoned BT and negotiated my TV contract down to £8.50/mnth( from £21). So from today I am paying £33.50 a month for the full sky package, and the BT Entertainment Plus package for 12 months. By the end of this new contract I reckon I will have saved over £700 without missing out on anything. In fact I've got loads of duplicate channels now which gives the rest of my family something to watch when I have the Sport on :-)
