Returned to uk.Will our score go up?

Hello I've always had a very good credit score but moved countries for 3 years. Now I have returned with my wife I got refused for even the lowest amount of credit.I've done all the right things like enrol on electoral register and pay regular bills but even after doing this I got refused for a small loan.My wife has credit card bills in another country which we pay each month we send payment but by the time both banks have had a piece and the interest of the cards nothing gets paid.I want a loan so all cards can be paid off and we will be much better off but I don't want to lower my score by getting refused again.Do you know how I can check without being shafted again? We are both employed and have no other debts. I've been working 2 years wife only a few months. Thanks

  • You could try the loan eligibility checker on this site. It is no guarantee but will give you an idea in terms of % chance of being approved.

Why don't you try applying with your UK bank? They'll have a history of how you run your account.

I highly doubt you will be eligible for any other loan, not unless you want to be paying sky high interest because the best rate APR loans are reserved for those with impeccable credit history, so I wouldn't bother wasting my time applying.

  • Thanks for the replies.I did get approved for a loan from the bank but it was something stupid like 27% interest although that was over 6 months ago might try again.I just did my free experian check and it's come up as 845 which doesn't seem bad.

If you've just returned then you are starting from scratch. You've no credit history. Only time will build it.

Not so much bad as meaningless. The score is fictional and for your benefit only - demonstrated by the fact you're having trouble being accepted for credit.
