Help Eon are ripping us off!!??
Comments
-
As others have pointed out the key information is the conversion of gas meter readings to Kwh. i.e What does the bill say? There is of course an outside chance that Eon has used the wrong meter conversion rate. What meter is in situ?
The electricity consumption looks quite normal to me.
I fear that the gas consumption is very high. Is this because of a large property or more likely carelessness and lack of understanding of the cost of heating? As the previous occupants managed on £99 per month the latter looks most likely.
Finally, and here is the 'rip off'. Eon's Standard Energy Plan is horrendously expensive . Savings of over £700 p.a. can be made against this tariff given the consumption levels indicated. A tariff change is urgently needed to an online version.
In my view, this is profiteering by Eon based on ignorance against ill informed customers. There is something seriously wrong when this is allowed to happen.
The customer has been given information to detect the problems and due to naivety has missed the clues. Sadly, I don't expect others and Eon in particular will have any sympathy.0 -
Hi all,
OK I have the annual statement which details following:
Electric - 3100 kWh (this is the assumed annual consumption)
Gas - 12500 kWh (this is alsoassumed annual cost) Tariff comparison rate is 4.98 p per kWh

Is this what you are after?

@ Macman believe me we are not trying to get anyoneto “jump through hoops” nor am I naive enough to assume Eon are going to writeoff a load of debt.

Understand we need to accept responsibility to somedegree, but as mentioned this is the first time we have owned a property and myoriginal post was to seek some help as meter readings mean nothing to meeither!

Thanks again for all the feedback and advice. 0 -

Ok - your estimated annual consumption isn't in anyway extraordinary. Has E.oN actually sent you a detailed bill and have they used an actual meter reading - provided by you or taken by a meter reader? If so, can you post the relevant calculations?
I confess that I have now read through this thread many times and I am still struggling to understand how you could have paid so much in monthly DDs, yet you still owe £2500. Cancelling your DD was not a wise move as this would have been seen as a default. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Cancelling your DD will also mean that you will revert to their standard (ie most expensive tariff)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Yes the levels of consumption are as close to a cost of £1200 p.a. on Eon's Standard Energy Plan. this would be covered by the £99 per month payment if all payments were made.
There has to be a simpler solution to this.
Can Malc the Eon Rep have a look at Nadiafox's account? It is also well worth a change of tariff initially within eon's options and a resumption and catch up of missing DD's.0 -

I cannot believe that this wouldn't have happened already. The customer provides an actual reading and the supplier pushes out an updated bill showing all the charges; payments made on account and any debit/credit balance. One of E.oN's strengths is its billing system: that said, its website is a bit of a jungle. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Agreed. I just thought Malc could offer an explanation of the missing facts/information to provide a solution.
There may be issues of Data Protection for him to post the answers directly but liaison with the customer may explain where the £2500 has appeared from.
If it is underestimation, then the recently provided annual consumption data is either desperately out of date or there are missing payments beyond the £700 recently accrued.
The more the customer liaises with a sympathetic Eon Rep the better imho.0 -
OP has still not answered the all important metric / imperial question.
I suspect the estimated use figures are the "off the shelf" average figures and nothing to do with a personal estimate.0 -

Yes this could be the OP's possible salvation.
If there has been a meter change but the system has not recognised it, then it could be an explanation for the large arrears and potential overcharge.
There is plenty of advice on the Web for Imperial/Metric gas meters and how to identify them.
Back in the OP's court if they want further help.:)0 -
When you say you owe £187 is this the actual bill for the quarter and you have paid 3 lots of £55 in DD - if so you are in debt for £22 which is very good for a winter quarterNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
