Just had an email from a friend who tried to return an electrical item to Aldi under their 3 year guarantee, store manager said nothing to do with us contact the manufacturer,he did this and they said no it's the stores responsibility,he went back to store and was given a refund as a "goodwill gesture" don't like the sound of this it sounds like wriggling out,I returned a dehumidifier to Aldi last year and didn't have a problem maybe things have changed.

Aldi are delightfully vague about the way they deal with warranties, even here:
https://customerservice.aldi.co.uk/public/PDF/GuaranteeLeaflet.pdf
Essentially, though, the approach is likely to be this:
Up to 60 days: return item with a receipt and you'll be refunded.
60 days to 12 months: return item with a receipt and you may be refunded
After 12 months: You'll have to contact the manufacturer under the warranty.
The important thing to remember (though Aldi don't make this at all clear) is that it isn't Aldi that provides the 2 or 3 year warranty - it's the manufacturer. And Aldi expect you to deal with problems via the manufacturer - not them.
That doesn't necessarily comply with the Consumer Rights Act 2015, though, and it might be necessary to remind the store manager that they can't just refuse to deal with faulty goods after 60 days/one year:
https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act
Up to 6 months it would be for Aldi to prove that the item wasn't faulty when purchased. After that it's for the customer to prove that it was faulty when purchased.
Aldi's responsibilities don't stop at the 60 day/12 months point. They're still potentially liable - it just becomes more difficult after the 6 month point to enforce your rights.0 -

Probably just that manager.0 -
This would be doubly complicated in Aldi's case because it is, in many instances, 'the manufacturer' of the products it sells - in so far as that term has any meaning when almost everything electrical is made by anonymous Chinese suppliers.
Having recently bought an Aldi freezer (so far, so good), partly on the strength of the 3 year warranty, I'll be very interested to see how this resolves.0 -
Has the law changed so drastically? Is a customer's contract no longer with the retailer, as has been the case for as long as I can remember?
Glad I don't shop at Aldi and will not be doing so any time soon if this is their attitude.0 -

Absolutely still the case. You may just need to remind individual managers of that if they're at all 'difficult'. I suspect that if you insist on their dealing with problems, they will. As shown by an earlier post not far above this one.0 -

Individual stores definitely vary on this one. For larger items that were bought within 60 days from a store, there has never been a problem, in my experience.
Umm... if you don't shop at Aldi, what made you look at the thread? Just curious... life's too short for me to look at things that have no relevance whatsoever to me.
Personally speaking, I would have been near to going under financially at times, if it hadn't been for Aldi and Heron Foods.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... What makes you think I am in any way accountable to you or anyone else for the choices I make?0 -

That wasn't my point!
You are free to comment where you like, of course.
However, a post on Aldi's policies by someone who does not, and has never, shopped in the store is way off topic on a thread entitled "Good and Bad Buys from Aldi and Lidl.".
Hopefully we can now return to posting news of the good (and bad buys) from Aldi and Lidl. The whole point of having an MSE thread is to stay on topic, so that people see a thread title and can find relevant moneysaving information.
You are perfectly free to start your own thread on the topic of Aldi returns policy, of course, even if it is something you have no apparent personal knowledge of.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
