I’m sure the butter lovers have noticed the drastic rise in prices :(

Lidl are selling Wyke Farm butter for 79p. It’s 200 g rather than usual 250 g but this works out at less than £1 for a pack. :D

Wyke Farm is a good brand made in the West Country

Butter seems to have risen a lot recently. Thought this was OK in Lidl today:

200g (small block, I know) Wykes Farm butter 79p

Someone fed us some mince pies made with Lidl vol au vents. They were delicious. I have bought some and need some ideas apart from mincemeat

I know I can Google it but I’d like some recommendations from people who have actually made and enjoyed things. If anyone has t seen them they are small so chunky fillings no good:T

Aldi's mini pork pies were full of gristle. Made me feel sick

I'm normally one of the first to praise Aldi but I'm afraid I've finally found two stinkers in their line-up. The first is their own brand of muffins. They are, quite simply, disgusting: dry and with a nasty aftertaste .

More worrying (in terms of its cost) is that this year's 'Christmas treat' Cognac, a 2002 Fine Champagne, is very disappointing -especially at pushing £30 a bottle, I'd read a couple of reviews elsewhere that had said it wasn't up to scratch but I'd hoped they were wrong. They weren't, it is thin and sharp. If you are tempted don't be. The ordinary Aldi Chevalier VS is nicer and costs just £14.99 a bottle!

The 59p biscuits on offer at Lidl this weekend are lovely

Well at least the white chocolate and cranberry ones are. Haven't tried the other 2 varieties.

Aldi's "Spice Infusion" cous cous has really gone downhill. They changed the packaging about 9 months ago and the contents seemed to change at the same time.

A lot less dried carrot and almost no flavour (previously tasted on coriander and other spices). Hardly worth buying now, I might as well just get plain cous cous (which Aldi don't actually sell).

I can attest to the hazelnut ones. Will report back on the others in due course :D

Just goes to show that paying more doesn't necessarily buy better. The cheaper one actually scored highest in a taste test recently and scored higher than the supermarket premium ones.
