Ever consider a career in domestic violence support?I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0 -
A bit off topic, but I am trying to decide if I think 'don't hit women' rather than 'don't hit people' is sexist. There is a point that hitting anyone physically weaker and less robust (often the woman) is more likely to damage them, but don't hit anyone, or don't hit hard enough to damage covers that. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

No, but I did mostly work with paranoid schizophrenics.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Whatever the reason does it make it right?!
If he came home drunk and attacked her would that be ok? Of course not!0 -
yousay the police have not been involved, but have you reported her violence to you in any way? Have you ever seen your doctor about the abuse or sought help from any other organsiation?
As a victim of domestic abuse you *may* qualify for legal aid, but you do need to be able to provide some evidence.
You may find it helpful to contact MAnkind (http://new.mankind.org.uk/) which supports makle victims of domestc absie and violence.
Obviously you should not have retalited with violence to your ex, however, despite what another poster has said upthread this is not something which, as a one off, would mean a court would disbelive you. Most courts dealing with family cases are well aware that domestic violence can go both ways and that many victims do not report the violence, and that it can be even harder for men to admit that they have been victims than for women to do so.
depending on how recent it was, it may not be too late for you to log the incident wit hthe police, ensuring that there is a record of it ven if they take the view that it is too long ago for them to have any prospect of taking action agaisnt her. You mention that your ex has convictions for violent offences - do you have any previous conviticons?
If you don;t qualify for legal aid, then you can chekc to see whether there is a local university which has a law clinc. You may also be able to get some initial advice - many solicitors will offer a free initial meeting, and 'unbundled' services, where you can do some work yourself but have a lawyer on tap to help with specifc queries, are becoming increasingly common. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

The OP is indicating they are a victim of domestic abuse - regardless of gender and no-one has mentioned that he could get legal aid?
