It maybe the case that they'll (I would if I was them) install them on self service tills to encourage those of us with smaller loads to use those instead of manned tills, and leave the old tech on the manned tills because it saves paying to upgrade all of them when if we have a big trolley full we can't use contactless anyway. EDIT- Would also explain not having it in the fuel, a significant chunk of transactions will be for above the limit.
I rang Tesco CS for clarification, as our local Extra does not do contactless, but an internet list includes Tesco.
They told me that it was gradually being rolled out, hopefully reaching everywhere by the end of the year, but starting with small convenience stores, then all stores in order of city size ,starting with London.0 -
I have just been emailed a code by Morrisons, offering 5000 points (ie £5) with a minimum £40 spend.
Will they allow me to pay £30 contactless and the rest in cash, to get the TSB 5% from the £30 spend? (If not the Morrisons offer is better than the TSB one for this shopping session; £5 compared to £2 by splitting the spend to £20 twice).0 -

I work for Tesco and we had contactless terminals installed the other week.
Here in Derby it was the Tesco Metro first, followed by the Tesco Express (with Esso forecourt) then the store I work for. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Since this is a zombie thread anyway, may I leap in with a question?
I've just got the activation code for my new TSB account so I'm online now setting it all up.
It says Classic Plus clear as crystal, but when I clicked on the "account benefits" tab to check that I'd understood everything properly it begins with "Your Classic Account..." says nothing about cashback or interest and then the bottom paragraph says "Change to Classic Plus and earn an attractive rate of monthly interest on balances up to £2,000."
Is this just them putting the wrong information up, or should I call them? I don't want to waste their time and mine with a stupid question, but also I don't want to be sitting here with £2k in this account for a month and going mad on the contactless spending only to be told "sorry, no idea why you thought that was available on this account."
Cheeky question I know, but if somebody is reading who has a Classic Plus account, would they kindly log in to theirs and tell me if that's what they see as well?0 -

Same with mine. Don't worry about it, so long as the account, before you rename it, is called "Classic Plus".
It is usually (when applying for bank accounts) stated on the letters you are given what account you've signed up for.
Cashback is paid during the 3rd week and interest is paid at the start of the calendar month.0 -

But no need to worry, as mine (and the poster's above) says the same.0 -

I don't see why not but I'd offer them £10-ish cash (take a few pound coins and a tenner) and say that you'd like to pay the rest on the card rather than the other way around. I know that their self scan machines can do that because I sometimes put my lose change in and then pay the remainder on one of my cards. I realise that you're unlikely to put £40 through a self service machine but logically I'd have thought that it shouldn't be a problem.0 -

This may not apply - but if you do save up your £5 vouchers from the Morrison Spend/Save initiative you could use them to reduce the balance to under £30 then use the TSB contactless - job done!!0 -
Thanks guys.
I should add that TSB is the easiest account I've ever opened. Applied online at 8:30am on Tuesday. Got my card and activation code in the post today. All I'm missing is the PIN. If that's fast as well then I might even be able to rack up some cashback while it's still August!0
