O/S Daily Saturday 16 January 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Still dark, no snow but frosty, wind was absolutely biting yesterday, hoping it's not so bad today.
Dinner last night was chicken korma, rice and extras was lovely, DS1 didn't finish up going out, and he was having pizza and chips earlier in the evening before he went out, he still ate before us, and then ended up having a small portion of ours aswell! DS1's friends all decided they couldn't really afford to go out and it was too cold! Dinner tonight will be a fry up - but with as much as poss grilled etc.
I had a good day yesterday - got the food shopping done, spent a bit more than I wanted but now the fridge/freezer/store cupboards are all packed to bursting - I can't get anything more in either of the 2 freezers - so menu plan has been written with that in mind. I have several bits in there for main meals for the coming weeks too, so will have make a real effort to use from there as 1 freezer definitely needs defrosting - I hate that job! I then went to the beauty salon and had my treatments, was very nearly asleep by the time the beautician had finished my facial. It was great as it didn't cost me a penny either and I still have a little bit left on the gift card to go towards next time.
Today we will just be pottering about doing jobs. Dad turned up yesterday afternoon with the paperwork that they wanted me to sign - everyone else has already signed and he just showed me where to sign and it wasn't until I asked what the papers were for that I've been told directly what they were about, bro and elder sis are main one's then me and younger sis are in reserve in case there's any reason elder bro and sis can't do it. He seemed to assume I know all about it and that's the first time he's directly spoken to me about it, if I hadn't asked what the papers were for he wouldn't have told me, he just wanted to shove the papers under my nose and for me to sign - it's done so I can forget about it now. I don't get consulted about anything - (as this has episode has shown) so it's likely I'll get forgotten about when decisions need to be made, at least I won't get blamed for making the wrong decision!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
I've not managed to post every day, been a bit busy, so hugs and congratulations as required.
DGD 4 is here, she stayed overnight and was up by 6, she's fed the fish, I made hubby a cuppa and she's now sat drawing and writing. We will make choc chip muffins later on for her to take home, much discussion is going on presently about how many muffins we need to make.
I finished the matinee jacket I was making, there is a pic on my blog, I just need to sew a button on it and then post it off to the recipient. I shall make another one in blue next and then a blanket to match for a pregnant colleague.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning all,
Up early for me at the weekend as its my weekend to work, I shouldn't think it will be too busy as its an outdoor centre and its still freezing here but no snow !
I bought a down / feather quilt for the bed it was really expensive but I thought worth it if it keeps us warm, its lovely and in the main keeps me beautifully warm, but the outside edge all the way around has no stuffing in its just material, so your shoulders feet and side bits are always a bit chilly, I am not sure if its meant to be like that, does anyone have one and suffer the same ? if not it can go back for a refund and I will get a better one.
Ive got some chicken breast out for dinner tonight, OH can cook it I hope maybe in a curry as he makes good ones.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning nmlc and all who follow. Thanks for starting us off once again. Brr another frosty morning for us. Beautiful day yesterday with lots of blue sky but, by heck, it was parky!
I have the Friday jobs to resume this morning as DGD wasn't fit for school, as I expected, so we had her here all day after all. Cleaning time was spent playing Happy Families, Draughts etc etc!! Though she did feel well enough to come shopping so at least that got done!
We have the BIG family party today at DD's. It used to be my job to host it in years gone by but, as the family has increased, it has been harder and harder to sort out a mutually agreeable date around Christmas. So it was agreed mid January would be best. I was happy to pass the mantle on to the younger generation so now it seems to have ended up being hosted alternately between DD and eldest niece.
They have the right idea!! They suggested everyone brought their favourite dish with them to add to a buffet. So lasagne, chilli, various curries, pizza, meat pasties etc are all promised. In my day of hosting I was up most of the previous night preparing stuff and it cost me a small fortune for the pleasure!! We are kicking off about 3.00 pm and going on until the last stragglers fall out of the door!! (It won't be us!)
My contribution is going to be an enormous pasta bake and, as soon as I have finished the whizz round dusting and vaccing I'll get on with it. But first I have my hair to colour - I'm not turning up sporting my grey roots!
Have a good day all if you can and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care if venturing out in ice and snow xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Everyone is still fast asleep so I thought I would pop on and post. It is very cold but no snow thank goodness. I will put the heating on in a minute to make it toasty for when everyone decides to make an appearance.
Tescos is delivering a big shop this morning. I got a few extra bits in as I have lots of gaps in my cupboards now and it makes me uncomfortable to see that. The freezers are slowly going down which is good as I need to clean and defrost them. My CMHT lady is wanting to take me to Lidls on Tuesday so that will be good if I can get out of the door. I am saving a bit of my grocery money to spend there and my hubby has asked me to get him one of the lasagnes as they are his favourite.
I am another one planning to dye my hair this afternoon. I haven't used one for a couple of years as I have a very sensitive scalp and have psoriasis but I saw some advice to use the BodyShops ginger shampoo and it has cleared right up. It's pretty amazing really as I have had a bad scalp for years and years. My daughter will be helping me to put the dye on and hopefully it will look ok. I won't be sad to lose the grey hairs thats for sure.
Hubby is cooking tea tonight and we are having sausages and mash. I'm just grateful I don't have to peel the potatoes. Our chinese takeaway last night was lovely as usual but I woke up with a raging thirst. I need to drink more water overall as I tend to just have a couple of mugs of tea during the day and then a pint of water in the evening and it's not enough. I will aim to increase it over the next few days.
Hope you all have a great weekend whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning, thank you nmic for starting us off.
Very cold here this morning but still no snow thank goodness.
I have no plans to go out today but Himself will drop DGD1 at the hairdressers and then she is away for the weekend.
WM has just finished, and I need to make some cakes today, we have very little to last the week. We are also having liver and bacon for our meal this evening, with mashed potato, peas and masses of onion gravy
Have a good weekend all and stay safe

Morning All
It was beautiful this morning, lovely pink skies and lots of frost. The clouds have now gathered and it is just a cold, cold grey morning, could be snow on the way.
I was at DDs last night, it took ages to get there - the motorway was very slow going due to an accident on another road. When I got back the house was freezing, too late to light the log burner so had the heating on till I went to bed. It's surprising how the fire keeps the house warmer overnight as it's really cold in here this morning.
Going to walk down to the wool shop later, I feel like knitting something! Must also get some more de-icer for the car as I ran out yesterday.
Bedding in the WM, just off to clean the bathrooms and then have a shower.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. OH is still suffering, breakers in bed again. I will get dressed shortly and do the Friday clean.
We did nip out for half an hour last night, there are plans afoot to upgrade the village hall, it's going to cost around half a million at my reckoning. Not out long.
So far I have not caught the cold, fingers crossed it passes me by.....
I realised last night there was one person I had not told about Nick, so an email. When the children were younger we spent several holidays working on their small holding, Nick had said that one day he hoped to do something similar. Sadly that will never be now.
Off to get dressed and start the day.0 -
Morning everyone,
Another one woken up to a frosty, clear morning, lovely to see the blue sky but bbrrr on the early walk.
I did do the food shopping yesterday but SM was so busy couldn't face then going into the city centre and getting into JL so the steamer has been shelved for another day, thanks for the recommendation, much appreciated.
Freezer and cupboards now full so will meal plan for the next couple of weeks, think will have enough to see us through with just a few bits of fresh. Good old sausage, chips and beans for tea tonight, what my DOH calls a proper Saturday tea
Hope to get Bill out again, we had a short walk yesterday but some of the ice still hadn't melted of the puddles and suspect today will be worse so will need to be careful.
Hope everyone has a good day and take care folks x0 -
Morning all. Slow start to the morning despite the fact we are meant to be decorating youngest daughter's bedroom today. At least I get to enjoy my coffee in peace for a bit.
I have added some cod, vegetables and passata to the slow cooker for tonight's tea which I will serve with mashed potatoes. I've taken some leftover meatballs out of the freezer for the awkward one who doesn't like fish but he can have mash with them as well to save cooking any pasta. I need to make up some rolls so will get the bm on the go in a minute. Apart from that it will be a quick tidy round then once everyone's up and had breakfast we can get started on the bedroom.

Islandmaid well done to your DD you must be so proud of her.
Good morning chums ,and a very cold and frosty one it is as well.I am staying indoors today and doing as little as possible. I decide that it was time I had a day doing exactly what I wanted to do instead of rushing around like a thing possessed
So Saturdays are going to be my day off from my busy life:):) how long it lasts who knows ,but at the moment I have a nice sofa to snuggle down on this morning and my library book to read, after lunch I shall watch a taped movie and do some knitting with my feet up.
The only bit of work to be done today is to put the ironing away and make a saucepan of soup for next weeks lunches
Hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing
Take care everyone it looks pretty cold outside and there is a thick frost around
