Want to pay off credit cards with cash

in Credit cards
New year and it has started well 😊
We didn't win the big rollover but did manage to get just over £3000 in a local club lotto woohoo!
Now we wish to clear as much as we can off our credit cards but is it OK to just go into a bank and pay them in cash? Or does it need to be put into an account and then transferred?
I would like to get the money out the house asap-we only received it last night and I'm wary of having it sitting about.
Have just about got over the shock of winning in the first place-but looking forward to doing some good with it!!

Congrats, what a great way to start off the New Year!
On your credit card statement there should be a bank giro slip at the bottom of it - as long as there is still one yes you can go into a bank and pay the cash that way.
However it would be much easier if you paid the cash into your own bank account and then either did an online payment (most credit card companies allow this via their online portal) or just do a bank transfer to the card (details are usually on the back of your card statement). It's probably easier doing it that way then being hassled of going to a specific bank or Post Office with the pay in slip and being asked 20 questions as to where the money came from / proof / possibly flagged up for money laundering etc.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Woohoo we did it! After a celebratory night out, we cleared 2 cards completely and had a wee bit left over which we stuck into our Savings.
Turned out wasnt any hassle, no questions were asked, though I had brought the letter from the lotto club as proof just in case.
Feels great to have those cleared - only one left at 0% for another 11 months and is paid off monthly...now what to spend that extra money on???

good news.
which bank did you use?
and can someone pay, for example, a Barclaycard at a Lloyds branch, with cash?
and perhaps the best thing to do (at the risk of being boring) is leave it saved to help pay off the remaining card when the 0% deal comes to an end:think:0 -
The issuer of the card or a bank with whom you that have an account with would accept a cash payment.
Some people on here are obsessed with money laundering and are scared to use cash even when entirely legitimate. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It was a Barclaycard and a Captial One card, both paid at my local Bank of Ireland. They do allow payments of other cards but charge £5 for each transaction.
We've decided to leave it aside for now, hoping to replace the carpet on our stairs soon so it can go towards that
