My son is in his first flat and is worried how much gas he is using ,he is afraid to put the central heating on even though there is snow outside .
My son sent me two meter readings and asked me to see how much he has used already ,but I can't find out how much ,he is with eon
The readings are ..in KWH. Was 14706 and is now 14818
How do I get the cost please
Hi artydoll
Already some great advice on here. As Alt says, a 5 dial metric meter measures gas used in cubic metres and 112 cubic metres converts into approximately 1260 kWh. For the cost, as above, multiply the usage by the price per kWh, add the daily standing charges and VAT and knock off any discounts.
Sorry if I'm trying to teach you or your son how to suck eggs but, as this is his first flat, thought it might help if I add a bit of information. Has he been in touch with us to open an account? If not, he can do this online or over the phone. If he's able to let us have the meter readings for when he moved in, we can make sure the account starts off accurately. If he lets us have up to date readings too, we'll let him know exactly how much energy he's used and what it's cost from day one to date.
Totally understand how daunting moving into a property for the first time can be. If he registers with our website, we've a number of online tools to help. This includes 'Real Time Billing.' All he need do is pop in his meter readings and he'll have the option of seeing what balance would result or actually creating his own bill. It's a good way of keeping on top of things.
Does he pay with a Monthly Direct Debit? If he does, he can use the online 'Direct Debit Manager' to take more control of his account. This includes being able to make changes to the monthly payments to better reflect new circumstances. Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let him know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review if payments are changed but usage doesn't alter as expected. It's another way to keep on top of the energy usage and there's also lower standing charges for paying this way.
Make sure he's on the best tariff for his circumstances. Once he's a handle on his usage, pop this in kWh on to the independent comparison sites. This will list all the options open to him both with us and with the other suppliers. If he wants to stay with us, he can switch tariff online too.
He can opt into our free Rewards scheme online as well. This will let him earn up to 1500 points each year which can be exchanged for either Tesco Clubcard points or High Street Shopping Vouchers. Also online, there's lots of tips to help him save money by saving energy. Have a look at the 'Saving Energy' section in particular.
Sorry to ramble on artydoll but hope it helps.
