I have light in my hallway and kitchen and living room and dining room again.:T:T:T:T:T:T

I have been without light since January. It is November. It was only a fuse that had blown after all that time. I have ripped down the strings of messy fairy lights I used that flashed and gave me migraine! They have been decluttered to the CS. I can use normal lights now :D

I cleaned the patios glass doors inside and outside and taken down the curtains I hated. They have been cut up for cleaning rags.

A huge wooden framed mirror and shelf that has been propped up against the wall is now ON THE WALL and looking fabulous :D

Today might have been irritating, but boy was it worth it :)

    Today I am grateful for:

    Working lights :T

The nice apples that AnC delivered today. British apples are the best :)

Working from home so the handyman could come in the first place :)

    Happy weekend!

Most of the stones got rid of were collected from various beaches over the years and were just clutter really. It's not like I can't go there again and do I need to bring back a piece of beach every time? Crazy...:D

  • Glad to hear you persevered with the handyman and the end result is a positive.

Just makes me think how much we take for granted.

This diary is a life saver for me as I can’t share the struggle I am having financially with people in RL. I'm feeling thankful for it.

I have difficult family relationships and I am having some family stress, where I feel left out and poorly treated. This is affecting my mood too :(

A major stress for me is I can’t have people over to stay because of the dire state of my home. I won’t be comfortable until the bathroom and kitchen are habitable but I cannot do this for another year, when my debts are repaid. I know people on here are repaying debts for much longer but still remaining positive. I am not them, clearly.

I have one lovely friend who I can have to stay now the lighting has been sorted, as I feel comfortable (or I will when the bathroom pipe is fixed) with her :)

Emboldened by working with the handyman I called a decorating firm who are quoting me for a bedroom tomorrow. We shall see…

I won’t be able to have a holiday abroad until my debt is repaid either although I am going to Cornwall in February and I plan to have a few days in Amsterdam in May. I have also been invited to Suffolk for a weekend in the summer. I need to focus on these lovely opportunities instead of thinking further afield.

In my bullet journal I created a timetable of my ideal week. In this week I swim, use the gym and have a steam on my day off. I am going to do this tomorrow. Force myself. I think it will make me feel better

Two NSDs in a row. At least I no longer spend my way out of gloom.

    Enjoy your Sunday

  • I'm sorry to hear about the family difficulties DIA and empathise - I've had very similar feelings myself this year.

Everyone has a responsibility to be kind to others but I think family members often feel this doesn't apply to them. Don't let it get you down - it says more about them than it says about you. And remember - when people come to visit they are coming to visit you not your house.

Keep going - you've done amazingly well so far.

  • Hi DIA

Sorry to hear you're having a bit of a down day. I completely empathise with how important it is to be able to share these things - these diaries give us such valuable space and support. I feel very lucky in that once I gained confidence in paying my debt off I felt able to tell people in RL about my situation, and most of my close friends now know.

Regarding the house, I guess you will already have thought through anything you could potentially do yourself, but have you also considered what might be doable with friends? If you have friends who like doing decorating and are expert at it perhaps they might be prepared to come over and help make a joint effort that would save paying decorators? I am hoping some of mine will be coming over to teach me how to strip wallpaper :D

You're doing really well with having the tradesmen over to fix things and you've already got a plan so you're making wonderful progress. It may not take as long as you think :)

  • Thanks Rosa, Sadly I don’t have friends that are good decorators. I’m reasonably good myself and I stripped the room with a wallpaper stripper. The walls need filling and sanding, or skimming —skills that are beyond me. Once the walls are prepped and painted I can then keep them up myself.

You’re right I do have a plan. I’m just feeling impatient and a bit low I guess. It won’t last…:o

Thanks Fortune, I try not to let family get me to but they always do…

It’s funny with the house being such a state. I honestly think they’re not bothered but somehow I am and can’t help feeling embarrassed.

No matter how much I might moan I will keep going as the alternative is more of the same for much longer and that doesn’t bear thinking about.

I’m going to list a few items on gumtr33 tomorrow as my ‘home’ budget is nearly empty.

Tomorrow I can say, ‘payday is next week.’ Got to be a good thing right? :)

I hope you new week gets off to a flying start
