    Ah thanks Rosa :)
I am so enjoying YS hunting. I am a definite meal planner but I’m enjoying the spontaneity of my unknown meals. It’s a bit scary when there is nothing in and you have run out and you are hoping for YS bargains to create a meal. But fun!

    Today:
    organic carrots 15p
    a cod loin for 28p
fruit and veggie prepped (includes mango, melon, cucumber, a dip, and carrots) 30p

I also bought full price humous £1.05. parma ham on offer for £2.00 (and revels for £1 :o)

I ate the fruit and veggies with some of the parma ham and humous and now I have enough for tomorrow’s meals too.

Brilliant YS hunting as usual DIA, so impressed. I occasionally get some YS goodies but never that cheap so I think I must go too early or something.

Glad you've had a nice time away and hope you feel rather rested and refreshed with all that sea air :) Now to tackle the house! I hope that handyman works out ok, you'll feel great once it's all done and then you can tackle the next thing. A bit at a time, baby steps and all that.

And how exciting about you tutoring some classes :T Just brilliant :)

    Have a fab week x :)

  • My day began with a swim! It was not a sunny day but I still enjoyed my swim. :D I used to laugh at the people who swam in cold weather and I don’t think I’m that brave/crazy but I’m starting to understand why they do it. It is so exhilarating and you feel truly alive.:D

I have been to an outlet store where I bought my winter coat and my Rain mac. I am very pleased with both. The mac is long and very flattering. I now have tights and boots too and feel ready for Winter. I used up my emergency fund completely but I am rarely here and it made sense to get what I needed at these prices:

    Coat £130.00 reduced to £41.60

Rain mac £140 reduced to £55.97

I walked to the outlet store. It was an hour and a half to get there and mostly uphill so wonderful views but knackering. Got bus back.

I avoided coffees out but purchased a gluten free wrap as I was starving and didn’t want to get a headache. £1.50. It wasn’t good, but at least it was reduced.

A good, active, day for me. :) Work tomorrow :(

Hope your week got off to a good start too.

  • ‘I want a dog and a small car and a trip to New York but those are WANTS that I can’t have, at least not this year…’ 14.01.16

Debt and weight loss have so much in common and as a life-long weight struggler I have often worked towards a weight. I have put things off until that weight believing I cannot do X or Y until I’m slimmer and looking back its nonsense, I could have done it at any stage…

This has come up for me because I have a chance of a small car, not when I am debt free, but now (or in a few month’s time realistically). It is a friend here in Cornwall. I know the car is hardly driven and very well taken care of. I also think she will let me pay it off in 3 instalments. No debt. A car I have paid for. Cash.

So, I am considering whether to try to achieve one of my goals whilst on the journey instead of at the end. I am doing sums. Seeing if it viable. Adding up all the potential costs involved in driving again once the car is paid for. Ensuring the house plans are not affected. Sometimes I can be blind to opportunities because it isn't part of the plan, so I want to consider this. Lots to think about…

Ooh DIA, a wish coming true for you this year. I hope that pans out well, whatever you decide.

You've made a freezing swim sound exciting!

  • Getting ready for winter with some bargains there DIA :) exciting opportunity with the car, great to see you planning all potential costs, that way you'll make the right decision for you :)
  • Thanks for posting everyone :)

I keep looking at my budget to see where I can make savings short term and long term. I still haven’t made up for the shortfall for the increased debt repayment :(

This month I have stopped my standing orders for gas and electricity as I wasn’t home for September, so I have used minimal electricity and no gas. ;) This will help but it isn’t a permanent solution.

I have realised my pocket money is spent on food. This means not only am I getting fatter through eating too much but I am eating away possibilities and opportunities. I can’t repay additional debt and spend so much on food. :( This behaviour is not in my best interests. I have reduced my food budget to £120 AND I WILL STICK TO IT

To reflect the true situation (as opposed to my fantasy budget), after my shopping deliveries, my pocket money and remaining food budget will be amalgamated and stuck in a jar (£85)

Thinking about the car, I am not in Cornwall again until early 2017 so I could not buy it until then anyway so I have ample time to make up my mind. So, buying a car would therefore be only 10 months ahead of DF date.

On a done-it note, I spoke to the beautiful venue about taking classes there and they told me to email. I sent the email, so now, fingers crossed and wait and see.;)

I hope your week is progressing as you hoped reader

  • Oh DIA that's brilliant, a car is such a bonus as it gives you flexibility and freedom. That sounds like a great opportunity to have one without worries. I hope you find a way to have it next year.

In case it's any help, I budget about £100 a month for mine to cover everything but petrol - the biggest chunk is the insurance at about £300 (though this includes a couple of extras so could probably go down to £250 ish), service and MOT about £250 (this has been less some years depending what service needs doing), vehicle tax £120 ish, and some is left over for replacing tyres, brake pads etc. I use AutoAid for breakdown cover, £41 (you do need to have a credit card to hand either in your purse or hidden in the glove box, as you pay and reclaim) and they've been brilliant, including rescuing me in the snow one Christmas when I was halfway across the country from where I needed to be.
