The upcycling thing sounds great, I had looked at their fingerless gloves before. I took my long cashmere mix cardigan out of the wardrobe this morning and realised a moth has been having a lovely munch on one side. Are there options to stay at the same place but change what you do? They seem quite flexible and supportive from your posts. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Ah well done on the winning the crisps and chocolate battle DIA, you're a stronger gal than me!
You know I can totally sympathise with work issues and knowing what to do for the best. It's so tough wondering what to do, what order to do things in, worrying about everything, having interviews  Counselling sounds like a great idea and will hopefully help clarify things for you. But I guess you're in a great position with being mortgage free and about to be totally debt free so that's one less worry. I'm sure being debt free in life gives you options, for me it feels like that. When I had nearly £7k of debt, I felt trapped by it and it stopped me from moving house and leaving my job
Have you tried YNAB? I can't remember! I love it, but I've only got the older version. It takes a bit of getting your head round and I probably don't use it to its full potential but enough to make a huge difference to my life.

So sorry to read that you have a work shy colleague - I also have one but luckily she has just handed in her notice:j:j
I work for a very small charity and they have never really had a person like her before and my manager likes the good parts of being a manager but hates confrontation so even though me and others would moan nothing would get done.
We moved across to peer based appraisals in the last few years and earlier in the year we had to peer review her and she scored so low, then by co-incidence she quit part of her job (she was a team leader) and the manager decided the peer review could not be used as she was not in that role any longer and to wait 3months while she did her new role.
You all know what happened after 3 months - yup, we peer reviewed her again and scored her really low. The manager was genuinely shocked and of course had to show her the results (anonymous) and things all came to a head and it was agreed they would performance manage her which did not go down well.
Fast forward a month or so and she has not been performance managed but her apathy for work can no longer be hidden to the whole organisation (we have various teams) and things came to a head before xmas and she had a meeting and instead of accepting her part she decided to quit.:T
My manager asked what I thought and I said that I would rather have 1 less colleague and do more work than have the colleague and still have to cover her work as it just frustrates me that she gets away with doing not much while we are all so busy.
Its going to be interesting to write in her leaving card.
How are supervisions or appraisals managed at your place DIA?0 -
DIA glad to hear you are physically feeling better. Re work, the only reason I stay with my employer is because of the great flexible working arrangements and how good they have been . I would love a better paid job and can try internally if any come up. It’s a hard thing to weigh up these days , as you know I do my 4 days a week 9 hours a day , then have granddaughter Friday , I must say I do enjoy it .
Well done on no crisps and wine , my downfall is cheese .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It's a difficult balance isn't it.
I am very grateful for many aspects of my current job, but starting to find that I'm no longer challenged. It also ties me to this area when I wish I could live in a different landscape.
Definitely going to be a question for me this year too, whether to just accept that it's to pay the bills and focus on other things, or make a jump so I know I've tried.
Sorry DIA no helpful answers there but very interested to hear more about what you decide!

Another thing I always say as well is I think it depends where you are in your career, I am not bothered about promotion etc. I just want to go to work , do my job and come home . My job is stressful in its nature but only short lived stress . My career was in another industry of which I left and am glad I did.
