Options
My girlfriend has had a text message from a 'pdcs' saying to call a glasgow number 0141 951 6440

She doesnt owe anything for debts

Any idea of what or who these people are?

Her full name was at the top of the text message, and says she needs to call 're an important matter' there was a reference number to quote too.

    Hi bradz

This is Past Due Credit Solutions. They chase a lot of unpaid energy bills and more recently seem to be picking up a lot of HMRC debt e.g. Tax Credit overpayments.

Whether any of that rings a bell with your girlfriend or not, I would suggest that she waits for something more concrete than an unsolicited text to reach her - ideally a letter addressed directly to her.

If it turns out to be a government debt like a Tax Credit overpayment, it won't appear on a credit file. A lot of the examples we see involving PDCS are for alleged debts stretching way back into the 2000s, so the debtor will often have no recollection of the relevant matters.

Similarly, not all energy companies record information with credit agencies, so her report won't necessarily offer any clues as to what this text concerns.

PDCS themselves are a plain old debt collection agency with no greater powers than any other.

Could they turn up at the door? Do they have a right to enter the premesis?

Debt collection agencies can visit and knock on your door in theory, same as any other casual caller like you or I.

They have no rights to enter anyone's property or seize goods, and it is therefore extremely unlikely that they would go to the trouble of making such a visit.

They are not bailiffs and have no rights whatsoever.

Only court appointed bayliffs can enter your home, and then only through an unlocked door.
These people are debt collectors, totally different.

    Hi bradz

I take it South West Water is her current supplier?

Yes in that case it is worth her contacting SWW directly to arrange an affordable payment plan.

There will be no threat to her water supply, but providers are often relatively quick to take court action if not paid.
