Switching network/saving message history

Has anyone switched phone networks recently?
I'm going to keep the same phone and the same number but will I lose message history/whatsapp history etc? Can I back these up first somehow?
I take it existing apps and photos will remain on the phone?
It is an iphone 6.

The only data you would lose is anything stored on the SIM. Very little on a modern smartphone.No free lunch, and no free laptop
