I pay £600 per month to live in the centre of Sheffield. It is a great location but I am finding my self getting in to more and more debt. I have a part time job but that doesnt even come close to covering it.
Definitely but for what I am getting I cant go wrong, its a brilliant view and not full of party animals who misbehave! lol I dont want to share with other people.

Well, only you can decide if it's worth "getting in to more and more debt" over

When living beyond your means you have two choices, either reduce your outgoings, which you don't appear to be prepared to do, or increase your income.

  • I pay £700/pm for a one bed flat in the city centre of Birmingham. It's extortionate but still the standard price for the area. I can just about afford it by working several days a week, and the peace and quiet that comes with your own place has meant i'm set to come out with a really good degree.

It's quite a hard call, I could have payed half for something outside the city and sharing, but I did that last year and the distractions and stresses that came with it weren't ideal. I took the plunge this year, knowing full well i'd have much more work to survive.

I'm sitting here in my house and it's paid for. So to me those sort of figures just to rent seen extortionate, .......... but what do i know.
How much would it cost to buy a small house ?

  • They are really when it comes down to it, renting is for suckers but as a student that's all we can do!

To buy a small house? Not a clue really, largely depends on the location i.e. cheaper the further north you go. At around £200k for a two bed is probably cheapest for anything half decent. For comparison in Essex (where I'm from and live when not studying) a 1 bed flat will set you back £250-350k, so the difference is huge between locations.

I'm guessing that this is the south east of Essex, close to London.
I live in the opposite corner of Essex and you could buy a 4 bed detached house for that!
