The bonus is free money. Take it while it lasts.0 -
I'm with the OP on this one. I live in Cambridge where there is extremely little for £250,000 or less, even in the dodgy areas. I am single and have no family money. HTB ISA is useless to me. The division between London/not London is incredibly arbitrary and extremely pro-northern.
OP, sod the HTB ISA and get yourself over to the bank accounts and savings boards for advice on how to get 5%/6% on your savings instead. And check out the DFW board for advice on how to live frugally and save more. That's what I'm doing, anyway. It's as though the HTB didn't exist - it doesn't disadvantage us, but it doesn't benefit us either. It would only disadvantage you if you were looking for under £250,000 but didn't qualify. Nice to know my taxes are going towards helping people who may be more able to buy a house than me...0 -

Whereas 10 miles up the road in Coventry you could get a 3 bed semi for almost half that. Its just the way the market is unfortunately. You go where you can afford to buy.
Now I remember why I live in Coventry!0 -
Yes there is.
I think what's inferred is how much help do you expect purchasing a property worth a quarter of a million pounds?
...which is an understandable sentiment....particularly in view of having had the children before getting the house (it does make more sense to get the house first, then have the children).0 -

Why wouldnt you buy a 2 bed house anyway , being as you have 2 children?
You need to be considering a 3 bed at some point in life anyway ?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

Fair to say I ate a bit of humble pie yesterday however your comment on family planning is completley unnecessary. You live on the modern age? That comment sounded very much from the dark age...0 -

He's right, although such statements are moot after the fact.0
