I have a technical problem I'd be grateful for any help on. I currently have a small personal website which I host using my domain name using free webspace I had with Tiscali - now Talk Talk of course. I need to leave TT as they are charging so much for bb only and wonder if I can host the site for free with another provider? None of them seem to know when I call them. I'd like to switch to BT but can't get any sense out of them over this. Years ago all the providers seemed to offer free webspace - has this all changed?

Thanks for this Chunter. ooowebhost look good and I'd like to try them. Probably a stupid question but you have to send them the domain name you are using to register. Can I send this while I still have it posted with Tiscali/TalkTalk to test it? Can you have you have domain name posted on two hosts at once?0

The short answer is no, but.....
It depends what they are doing. If they immediately change the DNS records to the new host then your old site will no longer be visible. You can still log in to whatever control panel Tiscali use and perform background admin (copy/move files etc) but the site will no longer display any changes you make to the files stored there.
On the other hand, they may provide you with a future transfer date. In that case, you should be able to view the site on the new host (assuming you have transferred/copied the HTML/CSS across), although it will not display any changes on the public facing frontend as the live site will still be using the files stored on the Tiscali server.0 -
