If you're a TalkTalk phone customer or you're willing to sign up, you can go in to Carphone Warehouse at the moment and get a two month free trial of Setanta Sports, a premium sports channel available on freeview. You get a freeview box and the viewing card sent to you free of charge, and as long as you cancel within the trial period, you get to keep the freeview box and pay nothing for it!

Well I've looked at the offer, and I can't see anywhere on the Talk Talk website that says it is for a trial period. I read it to be the free 2 months was part of a 18 month contract, and that if you wished to terminate during this time you would be charged £70.

Setanta advertise that there is no contract - this is odd. That is what they say on the tv ads - please do check before you commit everyone!!!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

  • only speculation but perhaps they mean that your commiting to a 18 month talktalk contract rather than a 18month setant contract.

I know I am quoting myself, but the FAQs have changed from what was on the website last night. It now appears there is no minimum term with Sentanta, and you have to give 30 days notice to unsubscribe. Might pop in to CPW later to see what it is all about.

I should add that as I have a Talk Talk contract already, I only read the Sentanta information which had definitely said an 18 month contract.
  • You can sign up to this deal by phoning Talktalk on 0800 0497867 and save yourself a trip to town tomorrow (offer expires on 31/08)

The lady I spoke to confirmed that there is no minimum contract for Setanta, but you do need to give 30 days notice to cancel. The 18 months is the talktalk contract (I'm already with them so this doesn't make a difference to me)

Everything needed is sent by post within 4 -5 days.

    Cheers

Just requested one for MIL who is already with TalkTalk.
  • The Any Questions page states:

    CANCELLATION

What happens if I want to cancel?
    • We doubt that this will happen given the quality of sport being shown, however should you decide to terminate your contract then you need to give 30 days notice to Setanta.
If I cancel my TalkTalk service will I still be contracted to Setanta?
    • You are signing 2 separate contracts – one with TalkTalk and one with Setanta
    • If you want to cancel either service the other contract will continue, unless you cancel this contract
So the minimum notice to cancel setanta sports is 30 days.
    To infinity and beyond!
  • i was thinking of doing this to get the freeview box (I'm already signed up to TT) but I don't want the sports.

but reading the T&Cs I have one concern

    How will I be billed?
    • Monthly payments are in advance and your first payment of £9.99 for month 3 will be taken in month 2.
What happens if I want to cancel?
    • We doubt that this will happen given the quality of sport being shown, however should you decide to terminate your contract then you need to give 30 days notice to Setanta.
and when you start filling in your details it states
Payment of £9.99 for month 3 is taken in month 2 on the anniversary of your subscription

if I sign up today I read this as meaning that I will have £9.99 taken from my account in one month from today, and if I want to cancel i have to give 30 days notice, so in effect I need to cancel on the day I order if I don't want to be charged?

is this what it looks like to others? has anyone done this offer and cancelled without being charged (or has it not been running long enough yet?)

  • Im finding it a right pain to cancel. They just tell me to return the freeview and card.
  • so if you cancel you have to return the freeview box?
