Advice on getting to Gatwick airport

Hi

We are flying from Gatwick, I've never been before and I would like to know the best way to get there. We will already need to get two trains to get to the centre of London (I think Victoria is closest?) so don't really want to have to get the tube and another train to the airport, which seems to be the only option public transport wise. Are there any reputable transfer companies/ taxis we can book in advance which go direct from London (Victoria?) train station to Gatwick airport, and what is the approx price? I'm not familiar with London and don't generally book taxis so I'd really appreciate some help! :o

    Easybus do bus transfers
  • National Express coaches run to Gatwick from many places.

A lot depends on where you live and what time the flight is.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
  • Wow, thanks for the quick replies. The main starting point will be from any Manchester station.

Normally I've only ever flown from Manchester airport so I'm quite nervous about having to navigate lots of different trains to get to Gatwick and don't want to lug suitcases from one station to the next. I also definitely don't want to get the tube as I will get confused and stressed out!

Ideally I'd like to get one train to London then one taxi/coach transfer to London, but I'm worried about the cost and choosing a reputable company.

    Edit: the flight is 2.30pm

Fast trains go to Gatwick from London Victoria, so if your rail journey from Manchester ends there it would then be very quick and easy to get to the airport.

There are trains to Gatwick from most of the main stations in London, including a section of King's Cross. If you were to take a direct train from Manchester you would probably arrive at Euston, which is close to King's Cross: walking distance or a short ride by bus or taxi.

Look at London Toolkit site for the options from London to Gatwick
  • Wow easybus is cheap, but doesn't seem to go from Victoria station. I've found a website called "Gatwick Express" via the Terravision website. They do single tickets for £17.50. Does this sound like a good price, has anyone used this and is it easy to find when you get off the train? For 2 of us that would be £35, how much more would a taxi be?

Ah, when I put in a search on trainline.com it seemed to want to put me on a tube between stations, I didn't realise they were so close, so if I can walk from one station to another that could be an option thanks.

Manchester - Euston, 8-10min walk to St Pancras then direct train from St Pancras to Gatwick.

Thanks, so for this option I've found:

    Man Pic - London Euston direct 7.55 - 10.06.

    then Walk St Pancras

London St Pancras - Gatwick direct 10.40-11.30

Does this look like the right journey to get to Terminal S for a flight at 2.30pm?
