First direct and M&S bank provide cheque books and have switching offers on at the moment. They do offer 6% regular savers. FD do however charge £10 a month after six months if you don't pay in £1k a month - but there are ways around that (e.g. apply for an esaver or credit card).

Tesco pay 3% on up to £3k and offer a cheque book and there is no monthly minimum pay in.

The TSB classic plus and Nationwide flex direct are good too. Bank of Scotland and Lloyds also offer interest paying accounts.

Perhaps the TSB account might be best - 5% interest on up to £2k for a minimum £500 pay in a month, 5% regular saver, 5% refund on contactless payments up to £5 a month and they have a £100 switching offer on at present if you click via this site.

Full list of offers here - take your pick. But TSB is probably best as an all rounder and has no fees.

First Direct have withdrawn the esaver for new applications. There is still an account called "savings account" which you can apply for online, and which qualifies for waiving the current account fee.
