O2 Phone Unlocking

Hello.
Can anyone tell me how long it takes for O2 to unlock your iphone, please?
I was on a call and the agent told me that he had unlocked it however it would take some time for my new SIM to work. I was going to ask exactly how long it would take but ended up getting cut off. I spent ages trying to get through the first time so I don't fancy calling again.
He took my email address as well. Would I get an email confirmation when this was done?

I got mine unlocked before Christmas and it only took an hour or so. Possibly less. I received an email Telling me the unlatching request had been processed and, to complete the process, put in a non o2 sim and connect to iTunes.0
