Who cancels previous supplier?

With the demise of the MAC code where is the onus to tell the previous supplier of your broadband/phone when you move to another supplier?
I have moved to TalkTalk for phone and broadband. OpenReach guy says that original supplier is only notified once line is switched.
I have switched before when the MAC code was required which flagged up to original supplier that you were going to leave at least 2 weeks before you did - now it seems a big black hole.
Can someone reassure me or tell me what to do as I do not want to be paying 2 suppliers.

When did you move?
When I switched from PlusNet to Sky, no MAC was required as it was under the new guidelines. Within a couple of hours of ordering Sky PlusNet sent me an email to say that they had received word that another provider had told them I was moving my phone and BB away from PlusNet and provided info on what happens to my final bill etc.
On actual switching day Openreach do then inform both providers that it has completed but you should have received notification beforehand from the old provider.
Who was the old provider?0 -

Are you keeping your number and porting that to talktalk?
If you are keeping your existing number then talktalk would have to inform your previous supplier and it would happen as Jem16 said. If however you got a new number or talktalk said they couldn't transfer your number, then they would probably do a new line provide and, as such, you would have 2 active services.
If you haven't received any communication from your old supplier I would contact them. If talktalk have done a new line provide you will need to cancel the service with your old supplier, either 14 or 30 days usually, depending on who it is.0 -
It sounds as if TT have not migrated your line but ordered a new one, otherwise you wouldn't be contacted by Openreach, they just move your connection in the exchange , if you got a visit from OR, even if the OR engineer used some or all of the existing lineplant, your old provider will be unaware , and you will probably get two bills, one for a service you no longer have and one for the 'new' TT service
If this is the case , TT have messed up and not followed the industry process and you will have to advise your old provider, they will probably charge you for the notice period0
