Yes, Ulmon is free and free to use when you're lost. We've found it very useful in a number of American cities.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

When you buy your metro pass at a machine, it will ask you for a zip code, which obviously UK people don't have, so type 99999 and it will work.0

"Tip #12 - Getting from the airport to New York can cost as little as $8 from JFK or $13 from Newark."
Getting from Newark to Manhattan can cost as little as $4.35 - as long as you don't have too much luggage.
Get bus 62 from terminals A, B or C to Newark Penn Station. It runs every 10/15 minutes and takes around 20 minutes. The fare is $1.60 - exact change required.
Schedule here: http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0062.pdf
From Newark Penn Station to Manhattan on the PATH train is $2.75.
Schedules and maps here: http://www.panynj.gov/path/
The 62 bus is mainly used by locals and airport workers and they have an official policy of "only two pieces of baggage per customer not to exceed 22"x16"x8"" but unless the bus is packed they're not too strict about this.0 -

Buy them together for $59 - and get the following thrown in;
A City by night bus trip
A hop on hop,off boat trip covering the main sights
A card giving between 10 and 25% off various restaurants and attractions.
It lasts three days, so well worth it.
We bought these tickets and they are valid for 48 hours so you can use them for 3 days if you wish. We found them great value for hopping on off.
Eating out - Chinatown is the Excellent Dumpling house is so cheap. $23 (before tip) for lunch for 3 adults.
Theatre tickets. We didn't want to waste precious hours queueing for theatre tickets so asked our concierge. We had Phantom $165 tickets for $80 plus $20 per ticket runners fee. We save $195 on our 3 tickets with a $10 tip for concierge. We were seated about 11 rows from stage. Not half price but a excellent saving and meant we could have a full day out sight seeing.
We used official yellow cab for transport to and from JFK as there were 3 of us worth paying for plus we had a driver who was wanna be guide!~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Well worth a visit and too much to see in just one day. We were told by our receptionist that she goes there every other week and makes a donation as she couldn't afford to pay the full entry fee each time with her kids. She went on to explain that any attraction owned by the city operates a system of accepting donations if offered rather than the entrance fee. So on our second trip there we explained that we only wanted to see a few more exhibits and offered $10 to cover entry for 3 adults. Next time we go I will do the same as I'd prefer to do a few short trips around the museum rather than trying to cram it all in in one day. Coupled with walks in Central Park this is a great day out.0

How does this relate to the article under discussion?
It should maybe go on the NY attractions/things to do thread instead?0 -
Loved this post and some good money saving tips.
If you dislike queues and want a cheaper rate just use your MasterCard to pay for the one world tower - check it out, better views than the Empire State!
Stubhub is another good place to get cheap tickets for shows.

It must be a very "alternative" blog if it thinks that the MSE Tips Guide is NYC itself! :eek:0
